What are the responsibilities and job description for the Relief Shelter Operator position at Gaston County Government?
Hope United Survivor Network is a community collaborative working in one location to provide survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, sexual assault, elder abuse and childhood sexual trauma a safe and secure place to receive the help they need.Graduation from an accredited high school or a GED equivalency AND a minimum of 1 year of experience in a human service environment. Experience involving a live-in situation is desired.
Possession of a valid driver’s license is desired. HOURS: Rotating 12-Hour weekend shifts and weekday evening coverage as needed. Position requires the physical ability to perform household tasks, carry packages, lifting, and bending.The candidate selected must undergo and pass a drug screening test prior to employment
The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.
- Oversees and manages the Shelter operation after hours, Inspection of shelter to ensure safety of residents,
- Provide a safe, nonjudgmental & empowering environment to victims of domestic violence who utilizes the hot-line & residential services by listening to women & exhibiting sensitivity & concern when interacting with shelter callers. Determine eligibility, documents all calls & happenings of facility, and provide referrals as needed.
- Responsible for answering all domestic violence crisis & informational calls coming directly into the shelter on the 24-hour domestic crisis line or other phone lines.
- Completes initial shelter intakes on new resident’s arrival to The Shelter by a police escort. Provide referrals and other important contact information as needed. Works closely with law enforcement agencies. Informs new families of policies, procedures and guidelines. Perform routine administrative & maintenance tasks.
- Documents shelter occurrences on narrative sheets or on residents for shelter social worker. Contacts on-call staff person as needed for guidance.
- Clean, sanitize & prepare newly vacated bedrooms to be ready for new clients arrivals.
- Other duties as required.
