What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Work Supervisor III - Foster Care position at Gaston County Government?

The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.
B.) Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited school of social work and 3 years of social work or counseling experience
C.) Master’s Degree in counseling field and 3 years of social work or counseling experience
D.) Four year degree in a human service field or related curriculum including at least fifteen semester hours in courses related to social work or counseling and 4 years of social work or counseling
E.) Graduation from a four year college or university and 5 years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling, or a related human services field providing experience in the techniques of casework, group work, or community organization

An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
Must be able to adjust to changing work and climate in order to meet the needs of a multi-cultural, ever-changing clientele, as well as ability of multi-task, deal with intense inter-personal familial situations that might involve danger, violence, safety risks, and operate in a calm and reasonable manner (versus reactionary).
Must have a valid driver's license.The applicant selected must undergo and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.

- Direct supervision of 5 - 6 Social Worker IIIs-IAT in family/investigative assessments. This format requires that the SWS III have strong working knowledge of rule/law/policy around multiple social work areas, take responsibility for child safety and well-being for a range of 75-100 open cases, and additionally handle all personnel matters with regard to direct reports.
- Makes screening decisions, assignments, transfers, legal referral, and closure decisions for cases within responsibility, ensuring adequate and timely attention to all cases. Manages all scheduling and leave approval for unit, in collaboration with partner Supervisor and Unit (on team).
- Facilitates unit/team staffing on a weekly rotation with partner SWS III, and also individually staffs cases, as necessary, to ensure support, direction and guidance for social work staff.
- Provides individual attention and training to each social worker (including assigned interns), on an as-needed basis, to include support, encouragement, coaching and discipline (developing work plans and corrective action plans).
- Reviews all documentation, including all court paperwork and orders, to ensure compliance with law and policy.
- Accompanies, critiques, guides and coaches staff during direct service delivery for teaching/learning purposes, during vacancies or absences (ensures coverage), and in dangerous or threatening situations, or when they are working intensely complicated (sometimes cross county or multi-issue) cases.
- Participates in interviewing, selection and hiring processes of staff for unit, including all performance evaluations throughout responsibility for individual staff.
- Relates unmet service needs for clientele, makes budget requests (as appropriate) to Coordinator and Administrator. Captures statistical data and prepares monthly reports.
- Participates in Children & Family Services Management Team meetings monthly, participating on subcommittees, providing input and feedback, in order to promote accountability and consistency across units/teams/division. Participates, as a representative of the agency, in external boards, organizations, committees to promote relationships and collaboration with community partners and stakeholders, as well as participating on internal committees and projects.
- Responsible for supervision of after-hours rotation on-call Child Protective Services on a rotating basis for periods of 3 days in addition to daytime, regular supervisory responsibilities and/or an occasional 3-day weekend shift (including all hours the DHHS agency is not open to the public). This supervisor might also cover after hours supervisor responsibilities on a holiday.
