Description
The Gaston County Tax Department's purpose is to accurately and impartially appraise all property in accordance with applicable state laws and to collect all ad valorem taxes. The Tax Department strives to be effective, efficient, and courteous to all customers and citizens of Gaston County.
Examples of Duties
The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.
- Appraises registered motor vehicles and maintains North Carolina Vehicle Tax System records.
- Interviews the general public and elicits personal and real property tax information; enters data on required forms; enters and retrieves data on computerized records systems.
- Assists with the appraisal of all types of individual personal property.
- Assists with the processing of exclusions and exemptions.
- Assists the public with appraisal questions regarding personal property : boats / motors, airplanes, vehicles, trailers and mobile homes.
- Assist taxpayers with preparing listing forms.
- Processes individual property tax listings and appraises boats / motors, vehicles, trailers, mobile homes, and airplanes using various valuation guides and valuation methods.
- Resolves inquiries and complaints concerning personal property tax issues; explains tax listing requirements and various laws and ordinances.
- Participates in the preparation and maintenance of various tax listing and assessment reports and files.
- Researches and corrects mailing addresses and performs other database maintenance.
- Resolves inquiries and complaints concerning tax issues. Searches for unlisted property. Creates and adjusts tax bills.
- Other duties may be required as requested by the Supervisor.
