Definition
Under the direction of the Principal, serves as an educational leader and assists the Principal in the planning, coordination, and directing of activities and programs related to the administration of one or more assigned schools.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in the planning, development, organization, coordination, and supervision of instructional programs and activities; interpret and implement the District approved curriculum program to accommodate individual school needs.
- Assists in providing leadership to the school staff in determining objectives and identifying school needs as the basis for developing long- and short-range plans for the assigned school.
- Assists in screening, selecting, assigning, supervising, and evaluating the performance of licensed and classified staff members; motivate employee performance and enhances morale.
- Assists in planning, organizing, and implementing district staff development and training; encourages and supports professional growth for all staff members; participates in his/her own professional growth.
- Assists in assigning students in such a way as to encourage their optimal growth and make periodic appraisals of their progress; advises, counsels, and assists instructional, support, and ancillary personnel in problem-solving activities pertaining to student performance and behavior to determine appropriate solutions.
- Maintains liaison with district Student Support Services, including psychologists, speech therapists, nurses, etc.
- Assists in the supervision of student enrollment, records, attendance, and health requirements.
- Assists in the planning, scheduling, and supervision of student activities.
- Assists in the planning and implementation of school plans and organizational procedures for the health, safety, discipline, and conduct of the students.
- Maintains effective community relations; assists in communicating to parents regarding all phases of the educational program; assists the Principal in carrying out a program of community relations.
- Assists the Principal in communications between the central administration and the site, and interprets, supports, and implements district and state policies and procedures.
- Assists in the responsibility for the operational effectiveness of the school including planning, supervising, and directing the business operation of the school in accordance with district policies and procedures.
- Assists in the site budget planning process and expenditure control.
- Serves as the chief administrator in the absence of the Principal.
- Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Must be able to perform medium work exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and climb or balance.
- Must possess the visual acuity to operate required equipment and motor vehicles. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Educational/School Administration or a related field.
- Licensed as a Principal (00012) on or before June 30, 2024.
- Minimum of five successful years as a classroom teacher, with ratings of “proficient”/”at standard” or higher on the NC Educator Evaluation System and no letters of reprimand on file in the last three years.
