Definition
The Instructional Coach is a school-based position responsible for supporting teachers in the design, development, and implementation of instruction that promotes effective teaching and learning across all content areas. This role focuses on supporting teachers in the creation of high-quality educational experiences that are aligned with best practices in pedagogy and instructional design, and that can be adapted to meet the diverse needs of AIG, ML, EC, and regular education students.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Works with PLCs and teachers to help design and develop engaging and effective instructional materials, including lesson plans, assessments, multimedia resources, and digital content.
• Collaborate with curriculum coordinators and content specialists to ensure instructional materials align with state standards and district learning objectives.
• Apply instructional design principles to create resources that support differentiated instruction and cater to diverse learning needs, including those of AIG, ML, EC, and regular education students.
• Provide training and support to teachers on strategies for differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including advanced learners, multilingual students, students with disabilities, and those in general education.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of instructional materials and make recommendations for improvement based on feedback and data analysis, with a focus on inclusivity and accessibility.
• Work with teachers and administrators to effectively integrate technology into the classroom to support differentiated instruction.
• Work with teachers and administrators to effectively analyze data and design instruction to meet the various academic needs in the classroom.
• Stay current with trends in instructional design, educational technology, and pedagogy to ensure materials reflect best practices and are responsive to the needs of diverse learners.
• Assist in the development and implementation of professional development programs focused on instructional design, effective teaching strategies, and differentiation techniques.
• Support the development and maintenance of the district's digital curriculum repository, ensuring that resources are accessible and adaptable for all student groups.
• Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Strong understanding of instructional design models, educational technology tools, and differentiation strategies.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
• Ability to create engaging and accessible instructional materials for diverse learners, including AIG, ML, EC, and regular education students.
• Proficiency in using digital tools and platforms for curriculum development.
• Knowledge of best practices in differentiated instruction, inclusive education, and the specific needs of AIG, ML, and EC populations.
Physical Requirements
• Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
• Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up-to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up-to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift objects.
• Must possess the visual acuity to operate required office equipment and inspect work for accuracy, thoroughness, and adherence to work standards and instructions.
• Must possess the visual acuity to prepare data, work with records processes, and do extensive reading and research.
Minimum Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience in instructional design, curriculum development, or related roles.
• Valid NC Teaching License Required
• Proven record of improving student achievement at the school or district level with supporting data.

Salary: North Carolina Teacher’s Salary Schedule
Classification: Exempt
This is a 10-month position.
