Definition
This employee will support the district’s instructional program by planning appropriate development programs and implementing instruction for identified special population students in accordance with state law and regulation as well as district curriculum and expectations.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Responsible for planning, organizing, and presenting direct instruction in a variety of styles to help special populations students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development as well as aid and enhance progress toward individual goals.
• Is responsible for the development of IEP for students with disabilities and ML plans for multilingual learners; implements these plans; and uses diagnostic information obtained from tests and other assessment procedures to update plans as needed.
• Monitors student behavior; deescalates inappropriate behaviors; teaches students appropriate behavioral strategies.
• Communicates with parents regarding their children’s educational progress via periodic written progress reports.
• Maintains student records in accordance with North Carolina’s Procedures Governing Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities; and complies with State and Federal education statutes.
• Treats all students in a fair and equitable manner, interacts effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and community.
• Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as technology, copiers, and possible specialized equipment for children with special needs, etc.
• Performs other related work as required.

• Demonstrates knowledge of education curricula, instructional methodology, techniques, technology, cognitive development or students, and integration of these to promote student success.

Physical Requirements
• Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
• Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up-to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up-to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift objects.
• Must possess the visual acuity to operate required office equipment and inspect work for accuracy, thoroughness, and adherence to work standards and instructions.
• Must possess the visual acuity to prepare data, work with records processes, and do extensive reading and research.
Minimum Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree (including all courses to meet credential requirements) from a regionally accredited college/university.
• Must be licensed in English as a Second Language (00110) or eligible for licensure, and/or must be licensed in Special Education/General Curriculum (88091) or eligible for licensure and willing to work towards dual licensure.
