Definition
The Director of Instructional Coaching and Advanced Teaching Roles will serve as a senior member of the Academic Services team and the leader of the Gaston County Schools Advanced Teaching Roles (ATR) program and Instructional Coaching (IC) Program. They will partner directly with district leadership and schools to develop and implement the ATR program and IC program which are both new to Gaston County Schools. The Director will support continued program development, coordinate steps for implementation, provide thought partnership and support for school leaders, and provide coaching and professional development for educators serving in the IC & ATR positions. In addition, they will engage stakeholders and lead the continuous improvement process throughout implementation.
Duties and Responsibilities
May include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Serve as a senior member of the Academic Services team by leading the Advanced Teaching Roles program and Instructional Coaching Program.
• Direct, lead, and develop a team of school-based Instructional Coaches and Advanced Teaching Roles (ATR) teachers.
• Lead the development and implementation of the Gaston County Schools Advanced Teaching Roles Program.
• Develop and lead an instructional coaching strategy in GCS that includes the instructional coaches at all Title I schools, ATR Lead Teachers, and ATR Reach Teachers.
• Manage all aspects, including budget, compliance, and programmatic, of the Advanced Teaching Roles Grant that has been awarded to Gaston County Schools.
• Partner with GCS district leadership and school leaders to ensure the ATR program & instructional coaching are implemented successfully.
• Coordinate steps for program implementation through partnership with ATR program schools, academic services, human resources, communications, and other district departments.
• Provide thought partnership and support for school leaders to ensure ATR program implementation meets the needs of the students and teachers at their school.
• Provide coaching and professional development opportunities for the educators serving in advanced teaching roles.
• Develop a comprehensive system for tracking ATR program progress and impact.
• Support recruitment and retention of ATR program educators.
• Lead the ATR program with a focus on driving for results and data to inform instructional practices, monitor student progress, and adjust strategies to maximize impact.
• Develop processes, procedures, data collection & analysis, timelines, handbooks, FAQs, etc. to support consistent, successful implementation of the ATR program.
• Lead meetings, PLCs, professional learning, etc. for various stakeholder groups to support understanding of the ATR program.
• Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Google Workspace, specifically Sheets.

Physical Requirements
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Must possess the visual acuity to prepare data, work with record processes, and do extensive reading and research.
Minimum Education and Experience
• Education: Master’s degree in Education or related field is required
• Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience as an Educator;
• Proven record of improving student achievement data at the school or district level
• Proven experience with Advanced Teaching Roles, instructional coaching, and program/project management is highly preferred
• Experience providing support for instructional leaders and Principals
• Preferred experience in leading or supporting change management initiatives and driving for results in school transformation or turnaround efforts.

Salary: North Carolina Central Office Salary Schedule

Terms of Employment: Full-time, 12-month position
Evaluation: The performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with district policies and procedures.
Funding: This position will be funded through the advanced teacher roles grant (PRC 0022) that has been awarded to Gaston County Schools for 3 years starting in 2025. Following the 3-year grant period, this position will be sustained using Title I and/or Title II grant funds.
