Position Summary
Provides diagnostic and therapeutic services to hospitalized patients under the supervision and collaboration of physician(s) in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements defined by licensure. Delivers high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective care to patients and their families in the inpatient setting.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Provides comprehensive inpatient care, including patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, implementation, and evaluation, in accordance with GIA and hospital standards.
- Conducts hospital rounds, performs consults, and manages inpatient care, including ordering and monitoring lab tests, imaging studies, and other diagnostic evaluations.
- Works closely with supervising physicians to develop and adjust care plans, ensuring timely communication regarding patient status, test results, and treatment decisions.
- Coordinates with hospitalists, specialists, nursing staff, case managers, and ancillary services to facilitate multidisciplinary care and smooth transitions, including discharge planning and post-hospital follow-up.
- Documents all patient encounters, procedures, and treatment plans accurately and in a timely manner, adhering to hospital and regulatory documentation requirements, including participation in quality reporting programs.
- Provides patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatments, discharge instructions, and long-term care plans.
- Maintains up-to-date clinical knowledge and compliance with hospital policies, coding guidelines, and evolving healthcare regulations.
- Serves as a key liaison between the hospital and outpatient providers to ensure seamless continuity of care.
- Engages in hospital-based quality improvement initiatives and contributes to staff education through in-service training and professional development activities.
- Demonstrates professionalism and a commitment to high-quality patient care, patient safety, and excellent customer service.
- Provides clinic coverage as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education
- Graduate of an accredited physician assistant or nurse practitioner program.
- Licensure/Certification
- Current and valid Wisconsin Physician Assistant license; or Wisconsin Registered Nurse license and Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber license.
- Current NCCPA certification; or AANP or ANCC certification.
- BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred.
- Experience
- Minimum of one- to three-years of practice experience in an adult medicine setting preferred.

- Knowledge of medical diagnostic and therapeutic principles, practices and techniques.
- Advanced clinical knowledge of the GI system, pharmaceuticals, and GI related diagnostic testing (lab and radiology).
- Knowledge of location, care, operation, and safety hazards of medical equipment, instruments and procedures to administer effective, safe patient care.
- Knowledge of regulatory and licensing requirements, including documentation standards, coding, billing and appropriate use of medical terminology and abbreviations.

- Proficient computer skills working in an Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Demonstrates professionalism and respect in all forms of communication and correspondence.
