JOB SUMMARY:
Gate City Charter School for the Arts is seeking qualified, friendly, and capable Substitutes to provide classroom teacher or para-educator coverage when needed within general education and specials classrooms. Responsibilities include the supervision, care, and instruction of the students throughout their day; implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior and safety; and providing information to appropriate school personnel. Substitutes work with students, and staff, in a professional, respectful manner, and uphold school policies and procedures. Demonstrate patience, compassion, and empathy when working with all students in our inclusive, enriching school environment. Strong time management and organizational skills are crucial to this role, as well as excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach and/or provide para-professional support across multiple subjects and levels within K-8th grade classrooms as needed due to teacher and staff absences . Provide instruction in an energetic, positive, comprehensive manner as per teacher plans and staff instruction.
- Support and reinforce classroom objectives in a respectful, patient, responsive way.
- Follow students' Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), 504s, and Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) accommodations, supports, and goals to best support students in their education and social emotional well-being. Record progress notes and behavioral data.
- Monitor students within the classroom, school, and/or playground for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
- Exemplify school values and respectfully communicate with all colleagues in a professional manner.
- Familiarity with Social-Emotional Learning styles (such as Responsive Classroom, Choose Love, developmental growth, and emotional/behavioral/mental health needs).
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma required; college coursework preferred.
- Experience working with children in an educational setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Creativity and enthusiasm for arts and education, along with a willingness to make the educational environment fun, inviting, and supportive.
