Job Summary:
The Corrosion & Mechanical Staff Engineer position is responsible for providing mechanical and metallurgical laboratory support during project execution and failure investigations. This role is expected to participate in all VLS ISO 17025 accreditation initiatives, maintain and support the development of the VLS quality management system and its implementation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for engineering setup of all testing equipment in the laboratory and the use of best judgment when adjustments are required
- Evaluate and interpret testing as required to provide accurate and timely test results to customers
- Develop and improve testing methods to ensure the operational efficiency of the laboratory.
- Ensure/recommend adequate methodologies for calibration and proper functioning of measuring instruments and test equipment are implemented accordingly
- Develop proposals
- Identify and develop business opportunities
- Provide on the job training for junior staff
- Ensure correct project/deliverable documentation
- Oversee documentation procedures relating to tracking, testing, inspection and inventory of all company equipment
- Support Lab Technicians as issues and or needs arise
- Support company subsidiaries (GATE, BlueFin) as needed
- Responsible for adhering to GATE Energy policies and procedure in a positive manner
- Proactively work to create positive and professional culture within Viking
- Other duties as assigned
Experience & Education:
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience analyzing mechanical and fracture mechanics testing, testing equipment, and troubleshooting test equipment
- Relevant engineering degree required
- Proven ability to manage quality, time, team, and budget on discrete scopes of work
- Experience and knowledge with industry standards, such as API, ASME, and NACE is a plus
- Have the necessary background in laboratory operations management to liaison with new and existing customers
- Experience in setting up new laboratory testing equipment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Computer skills, including Microsoft office, Word, Excel, and Outlook is required
