Job Description
CTE - MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The College and Career Ready labs provide students with the opportunity to explore different career pathways while building important skills for the 21st century. Students engage in authentic problem-based learning experiences as they discover their interests and aptitudes. The teacher facilitates the students as they rotate through a series of modules.
POSITION: 10-month
SALARY: Salary to be determined by the DPI state policy schedule
Reports to: Principal
QUALIFICATIONS
Licensing/Certification
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree from an approved educator preparation program
- Hold or be able to obtain a North Carolina Teachers License with a specific endorsement in the area to which assigned (765, 710, 720, or 820)
- Must obtain a completion certificate in Paxton-Patterson College and Career Ready labs training
Experience:
- Must have strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- To demonstrate knowledge of the subject being taught
- To demonstrate the ability to adjust presentation of subject content to students’ needs and interests
- To maintain an organized program of instruction based on long-range plans and in accordance to the curriculum and grade/subject expected outcomes.
- To exhibit evidence of effective lesson plans, including the utilization of appropriate materials and resources, varied teaching techniques and learning activities
- To communicate lesson objectives and its importance to students
- To use out-of-class assignments, when appropriate, and to support instructional objectives
- To maintain an effective system of monitoring student progress and to inform appropriate persons
- To maintain discipline appropriate to learning situations
- To keep students on task and to use positive reinforcement and constructive criticism to maintain good student discipline
- To comply with school and school board policies and regulations
- To work cooperatively with the total staff
- To relate positively to parents and other community representatives
- To demonstrate professional growth
- To be prompt and accurate with required records and reports
- To demonstrate command of the English language, both spoken and written
- To accept responsibilities outside of the classroom as they relate to the school

- To assume responsibility for a neat, safe environment for students committed to the teacher’s care
- To perform other job-related tasks as assigned by the Principal or designee
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is sometimes required to sit.
- The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
- The employee is regularly required to stand and walk.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to accurately observe in a variety of settings.
- Both receptive and expressive hearing and speech skills are required in order to fulfill the daily tasks of a teacher.
- The teacher is expected to perform all physical requirements inherent to a public school classroom setting.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor classroom conditions and regularly works near a video display. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The work is typically performed in a classroom setting. Daily contact is made with all classified employees, teachers, administrators, and students in person.
SUPERVISORY ROLE: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants
TE FLSA STATUS: Exempt
