What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Communications Officer, Philanthropic Partnerships position at gatesfoundation?

The Foundation We are the largest nonprofit fighting poverty, disease, and inequity around the world. Founded on a simple premise: people everywhere, regardless of identity or circumstances, should have the chance to live healthy, productive lives. We believe our employees should reflect the rich diversity of the global populations we aim to serve. We provide an exceptional benefits package to employees and their families which include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with no premiums, generous paid time off, paid family leave, foundation-paid retirement contribution, regional holidays, and opportunities to engage in several employee communities. As a workplace, we’re committed to creating an environment for you to thrive both personally and professionally. The Team The Philanthropic Partnerships Team’s (PPT) mission is to inspire and enable more informed and intentional generosity by all. Research has shown that generosity is a universal human impulse, but there is nothing natural about giving at scale or ensuring that philanthropic resources are channeled where they are needed most. PPT's strategy aims to close intent-to-action gaps and to increase giving that advances equity. PPT serves as a resource to those who want to achieve more with their giving and invests in organizations that help donors overcome common obstacles. We support programs that provide donors with resources to make informed decisions about giving, encourage innovations and policies that enable philanthropy, and support cultural norms around generosity. Our mission includes a commitment to advance equity around the world. We care deeply about how your experiences have shaped your understanding of philanthropy and advancing equity, and how they can help us achieve our mission. In applying for this role, we encourage you to think about the breadth and depth of your resume and add any information that would help us understand your personal and professional experiences related to our mission. This includes direct work in advocacy and community organization, social work, public policy, justice, or lived experience and/or education in any of these areas. You will be a terrific partner and collaborator, working with multiple diverse stakeholders: others on PPT, the Foundation’s External Communications office, Co-Chair private offices, grantees, and others. You will serve as a thought partner and advisor for PPT staff, grantees and partners, helping them secure awareness for their work and to tell their stories in high-impact ways. You’ll also be a manager of people, managing a Communications Officer who will help you achieve your objectives, and you’ll be a key part of PPT’s people manager leadership group. What You’ll Do Strategic Communications: Develop and implement the overall communications strategy, plan, and narrative for PPT as a whole, and for individual initiatives such as the Giving Pledge (https://givingpledge.org/about). Develop associated collateral and resources, e.g., key messages, Q&As, fact sheets, and related materials. Lead communications for key PPT programmatic initiatives – e.g., the Giving Pledge, Gates Philanthropy Partners, and the Greater Giving Summit – including public announcements, website content, external collateral, and more. Executive Engagement: Coordinate with relevant partners across the foundation and Co-Chair private offices on the use of leadership voice on issues in philanthropy. Respond to media requests for executive perspectives, which may involve creating leadership briefs, and coordinating and staffing leadership interviews. Media Relations: Oversee PPT’s responses to routine media requests, liaising with colleagues across the foundation to ensure we respond quickly and thoughtfully. Build relationships with media and track opportunities for engagement on the team’s priority issues, closely coordinating with the central Media Relations team. Lead proactive responses to breaking news as appropriate, ensuring our voice and/or our partners’ voices are used appropriately. Global Engagement: Support PPT’s work globally, including in the US, India, China, the Middle East and Southeast Asia, working in close coordination with the foundation’s regional communications teams. Measurement and Evaluation: Regularly liaise with the foundation's Measurement & Insights team to track and evaluate the public dialogue on philanthropy and to evaluate the impact of external media tactics.
