COUNSELOR- INPATIENT DETOX
32 Hours Weekly
Full-Time Benefits, including Paid Leave Accrual, Holiday Pay and Medical/Dental/Vision, etc Benefits
2 Schedule Options - Sunday through Wednesday (9am to 5:30pm) or Wednesday through Saturday (9am to 5:30pm)
POSITION OBJECTIVES
Provide direct and indirect services to patients and families in the Detox/Stabilization Unit. Primary responsibilities include screenings, assessments, referrals, and discharge planning. Provide psychoeducational groups and intervene utilizing motivational interviewing techniques with patients at AMA risk. Be an active multidisciplinary team member and participate in medical staffing. Meet with Providers daily to staff cases regarding medication protocol, treatment progress, and discharge plan. Consult with the medical team when medical or psychiatric concerns are identified. Coordinate interpreting services for patients. Communication with Nassau County Care Coordinator regarding Nassau County patients in Detox.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Ensure quality internal and external customer care and service.
2. Provide screening and assessment that meet funders’ requirements and make treatment recommendations.
3. Develop a diagnostic impression using the current DSM criteria based on information gathered during screening, assessment, and review of referral documents.
4. Address patient needs collaboratively with the treatment team through internal and/or external referrals.
5. Complete all required documents, including ROIs and Authorization for Info to be Released form, and submit to medical records to gather previous medical and treatment records.
6. Integrate referral source, community, and family support into treatment when clinically appropriate, assuring the Release of Information is complete.
7. Provide all services according to insurance, DCF licensing, managing entity, SAMHSA, and CARF accreditation guidelines and document all services within the required timeframes according to organizational policies and procedures.
8. Provide services with cultural and linguistic competency.
9. Provide resolutions of barriers toward treatment
10. Develop discharge plans for eligible patients and complete needed referrals to support this plan.
11. Provide suicide risk screening and make recommendations/contact crisis intervention staff.
12. Participate in program staff meetings, medical staffing, and other inter-organizational collaborations.
13. Maintains effective verbal and non-verbal communication within a multi-disciplinary team.
14. Participate in monthly clinical peer reviews.
15. Facilitate psychoeducational groups for patients.
16. Provide conflict resolution to ensure the patient’s safety and mental well-being.
17. Demonstrate flexibility as a team member and promote a positive working environment.
18. Make an attempt to contact the spouse/family of each patient to gather corroborating information, if applicable
19. Perform special projects and other Agency related assignments as requested.
20. Other duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
1. Must be eligible through DCF and AHCA with Level II Background checks throughout employment.
2. Must abide by the organizational policy and procedure manual and state certification/licensure board code of ethics.
3. Must practice universal precautions as part of regular job duties whenever applicable.
4. Must possess competencies to effectively understand and treat the population served, including working with patients with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorder and those receiving medication-assisted treatment.
5. Must complete a minimum of 20 hours of job-required training annually.
6. Complete and forward screenings and comprehensive assessments to a qualified professional within one business day of the service.
7. No more than a 3% error rate in Smart Care, striving for a 0% error rate.
8. Must consistently meet or exceed monthly productivity/performance goals within the first six months and throughout employment.
9. Must be able to perform assigned work independently with minimal supervision and make decisions using appropriate judgment.
10. Complete all required documentation and other Agency related paperwork within one business day.
11. Must be able to analyze and solve complex problems to design solution-focused approaches
12. Maintain the work area in a clean and orderly condition, ensuring safe operating conditions.
13. Ability to function as an effective team member
14. Must refrain from engaging in behaviors that erode the cohesiveness of the program staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
FORMAL
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Master's Degree related to behavioral health field
- Experience with substance use disorders
- Experience with mental health preferred
SKILLS
- Ability to formulate professional clinical reports.
