MEDICAL SUPPORT STAFF
OBJECTIVES
Function as support to the medical, educational, clinical staff and assist in behavior management activities in Detox. Accountable for assisting clients and staff as directed. Detox is a 24 hour, 7day a week facility. All staff must be able to work any and all shifts as needed. All staff must work with adults in a Detox residential setting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Ensure quality internal and external customer care and service.
2. Check Assignment Log in the beginning of shift
3. Check in with nurse at start of shift and responsible for following chain of command during shift and for conflict/crisis.
4. Read and initial pass down log daily.
5. Make rounds as necessary and required. Ensure all tasks are completed as required
6. Make notes in pass down log.
7. Assist with management of new clients upon admission, ensuring clients receive showers and all personal property is searched and labeled properly, and a written inventory maintained.
8. Give instructions to clients regarding hygiene and meals.
9. Awaken clients and ensure compliance with curfew and lights out.
10. Prepare clients for doctor visits.
11. Maintain constant movement throughout facility to monitor client activity every 15 minutes.
12. Assist if crisis intervention is needed, and more importantly, prevent crisis.
13. Change linens as needed, and upon client discharge, cleaning mattresses appropriately
14. Distribute supplies; monitor linen and client clothing inventory daily.
15. Assist in behavior management and client activities.
16. Assist counseling and medical staff.
17. Ensure adherence to activity schedules.
18. Serve meals and keep liquid refreshments available at all times.
19. Clean up after meals and refreshments.
20. Monitor and record client vital signs and report current condition to nurse.
21. Assist staff nurse as needed.
22. Act as receptionist as necessary.
23. Obtain and document drug screens in accordance with Policy and Procedures.
24. Assist with housekeeping and laundry duties as necessary.
25. Prepare new client locator each shift.
26. Facility requires all staff to be “AWAKE” staff.
27. Perform special projects and other Agency related assignments as requested.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
1. Must pass required background investigation.
2. Must complete all required trainings.
3. Must abide by Agency's Code of Ethics, Agency Standards, Policy and Procedures Manuals
4. Must practice universal precautions as part of regular job duties whenever applicable.
5. Must be able to successfully complete the agency's internal driving test within the first two weeks of employment.
6. Must keep a valid driver’s license acceptable to the agency’s insurance carrier. Must be 21 years or older for Insurance carrier.
7. Strict adherence to the Incident (Unusual Event) Reporting, timekeeping, and work attendance requirements.
8. Must complete a minimum of 20 hours of job related training annually.
9. Demonstrate proficiency in verbal de-escalation skills with juveniles and adults.
10. Demonstrate proficiency in physical intervention techniques with juveniles and adults.
11. Must be able to perform assigned work independently with minimal supervision.
12. Timely and regularly complete all required documentation, reports, and other Agency related paperwork.
13. Maintain the work area in a clean and orderly condition.
14. Ensure safe operating conditions within the area of responsibility.
15. Ability to function as an effective team member.
16. Must not engage in behaviors that erode the cohesiveness of the program staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
FORMAL
High School Diploma/ G.E.D
C.N.A. Preferred
SKILLS
Above average ability to accurately obtain vital signs including blood
pressure, pulse respiration and temperature.
Ability to relate to the detoxification population.
Ability to function as a team member.
Above average client management skills.
Ability to lift clients and assist with client mobility as needed.
Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies and life threatening situations in an appropriate manner.
Ability to work in fast-paced environment.
Strong customer service and organizational skills.
Ability to relate and present to groups.
Ability to relate to adolescents, adults, families, referral sources and internal
KNOWLEDGE
General knowledge of substance abuse and behaviors
LICENSURE
Valid State of Florida driver’s license with safe driving record
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Exposure to clients who may be under the influence or withdrawing from mood altering chemicals
Shift work, must be able to stay awake during shift.
Exposure to persons under the influence of mood altering chemicals
Possible exposure and or contact with blood, body fluids and airborne pathogens
