Job Summary:
The Railcar Technician is responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining railcars to ensure they are in safe and efficient working condition. This role involves performing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic repairs, as well as conducting routine maintenance and safety inspections.
You don't need to have direct experience in all trades, but must have at least 1 year of field experience in railcar maintenance, hvac, heavy equipment repair, plumbing, electrical, fabrication, carpentry, and/or welding.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspection and Diagnosis:
- Inspect railcars for damage, wear, and defects.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues and determine the necessary repairs.
Repair and Maintenance:
- Perform repairs on railcar components, including brakes, couplers, wheels, doors, and undercarriages.
- Replace or repair defective parts using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment.
Safety Compliance:
- Ensure all work meets industry safety standards and regulations.
- Conduct safety inspections on railcars and document findings.
Welding and Fabrication:
- Perform welding and metal fabrication as needed to repair railcar structures.
- Ensure all welding work meets required safety and quality standards.
Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance performed on each railcar.
- Report any safety concerns or potential issues to management.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with other technicians, supervisors, and engineers to coordinate repairs and maintenance.
- Assist with other tasks as needed to ensure the efficient operation of the facility.
Qualifications:
- Experience: At least 1 year of field experience in railcar maintenance, heavy equipment repair, hvac, plumbing, electrical, fabrication, carpentry, and/or welding.
- Skills: Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills; welding and fabrication experience a plus.
- Licenses/Certifications: Relevant certifications in railcar maintenance or welding preferred.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in various weather conditions, lift heavy objects, and perform physically demanding tasks.
