Chester Elementary School Secretary
Chester Elementary School is seeking a school Secretary. Chester Elementary is small. rural preschool through grade 5 school located in Chester, Massachusetts. The school secretary works 8 hours/day and has a work year that consists of 220 days. (work days and salary to be prorated based upon start date) This position is set to begin as soon as possible.
The ideal candidate will possess or the following qualifications or abilities:
● Must possess a bachelor’s degree.
● Must possess basic clerical skills including typing and keyboarding skills of at least 40 words per minute.
● Ability to work effectively in an environment with frequent interruptions requiring the ability to concentrate and consistently produce accurate work while responding to interruptions and changing priorities.
● Ability to use technology to communicate effectively and professionally, organize information, and produce high-quality products. PowerSchool, Finalsite (for uploading and updating content on school’s web page), and google workplace products (docs, sheets, calendar, slides, Gmail) experience a plus, but not required. Willingness and drive to learn new tech platforms and tools through self-directed learning or online, self-paced, coursework a must.
● Perform general office duties such as answering telephone inquiries, payroll, copying, faxing, filing, mail related tasks, keeping and updating materials/curriculum inventories, placing supply orders, and distributing orders and materials to appropriate staff or locations within the school building and/or throughout the school district.
● Strong oral and written communication skills.
● Maintain a positive, respectful, energetic, and solution focused mindset and attitude in all communication, interactions, and responses to staff, students, and caregivers.
● Ability to organize and maintain information, communication, reports, files, and documents.
● Ability to interact with students, parents, staff, and community members, personally and through electronic communications, in a warm, clear, and confident manner.
● Ability to maintain confidentiality of all school and personnel matters.
● Ability to help create a well-organized school that runs smoothly.
● Ability to greet and welcome students, staff, and caregivers to our school.
● Ability to problem solve and ensure tasks and problems are addressed and resolved in a prompt and comprehensive manner without needing reminders.
● Track attendance and absences; use reporting software and generate reports for internal and external use,
● Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the building principal immediately.
● Ability to make decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures and the ability to apply these to work problems.
● Ability, openness, and confidence to outreach to caregivers, staff, community members and community partners via email and telephone on a daily or regular basis.
● Ability to understand a variety of materials, including different school related reports, safety protocols, and emergency response manuals.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.15 - $25.22 per hour
