Gateway Regional School District has a rare opportunity for a passionate and dedicated full time Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI or TSVI) to join our team. Along with a full-time braillist and dedicated paraprofessional support, you'll have the opportunity to provide individualized instruction and make a meaningful impact on each student’s learning journey. Work with administrators who understand the value and purpose of the work of TVIs. Qualifications Massachusetts DESE licensure in the area of Teacher: Visually Impaired, or eligible for licensure. Master’s Degree in Special Education: Visual Impairments OR combined Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a vision education setting. Experience working with students who have visual impairments, including students with additional disabilities. A comprehensive understanding of the Expanded Core Curriculum and its importance for students with visual impairments. Familiarity with the special education process in Massachusetts. Strong written and verbal communication skills. The ability to prioritize tasks and duties, with a focus on student-centered instruction. Hold an unwavering belief that every student can grow and succeed. Job Responsibilities Provide direct service and consultation services to students, staff, and parents. Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment for students with visual impairments throughout the district. Provide professional development opportunities and support for all staff in the unique learning needs of students with vision impairment. Provide specialized instruction and support for students with visual impairments. Assess students' functional vision and learning needs to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) or 504 plans, including assessment driven goals and objectives, accommodations, and modifications. Work closely with teachers, braillist, paraprofessionals, and families to support student success. Teach braille, assistive technology, use of low vision tools, and other adaptive skills as needed. Travel to different school sites within the district, as required. Coordinate materials acquisition and orders for supplies through resources such as APH, AIM Library, and Federal Quota. Work together with community partners, including state agencies such as Massachusetts Commission for the Blind, Department of Developmental Services, and outside evaluators.
