What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Support Specialist position at Gateway Rehabilitation Center Corp HQ?
Gateway Rehab has an excellent opportunity for a Peer Support Specialist located in our Center Township PA. In this position, you will assist individuals in addiction treatment with co-occurring substance use disorder and mental health needs and /or early recovery to gain access to the resources, services, and support that will help them to achieve long-term recovery. This position receives regular supervision and instruction.
Responsibilities
- Provides information and opportunities for recovering individuals to direct their own recovery and advocacy processes.
- Establishes a relationship with patients that displays dignity and respect as reflected in professional language and appropriate boundaries.
- Teaches and supports the acquisition and utilization of skills needed to facilitate recovery.
- Promotes knowledge of and linkage to available services, options, and choices for recovery and mental health supportive services.
- Promotes the utilization of natural resources within the community, other agencies, and service systems. Supports referrals to other agencies, community programs, and other resources to meet the needs of the patient and family.
- Facilitates the development of a sense of wellness, self-worth, and identification of unique strengths.
- Modeling effective coping techniques and self-help strategies, as appropriate.
- Documents interactions and progress in patient’s electronic medical record; completes all documentation within a required time frame.
- Participates in group supervision and individual supervision.
- Participates in Co-Occurring Treatment team meetings, other department, and agency meetings, and internal and/or external trainings to promote performance improvement.
- Attends all Gateway Rehab mandatory training and in-services.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent listening and communication skills.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED
- Understanding of and/or lived experience with mental health recovery and services.
Additional Requirements
- Pass PA Criminal Background Check.
- Obtain PA Child Abuse and FBI Fingerprinting clearances.
- Pass Drug Screen.
- TB test.
Work Conditions:
- Working conditions include work in agency and community settings with occasional evening and/or weekend hours and some local travel.
- Minimal physical demands
- Mental demands include those associated with working with consumers in treatment and /or early recovery.
