Position : Cable Technician Level 1
Summary :
The Cable Technician Level 1 at Gateway Studios & Production Services plays an important role in the day-to-day operations of the Cable Department. This Technician is responsible for, among other things, the quality control, maintenance, and inventory control of all GSPS cables. This position reports to the Cable Department Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Major Responsibilities
1. Material Handling
Load and unload cable trunks, cases, and transportation vehicles.
Operate all material handling equipment.
Customize labels and bindings as per individual job requirements.
2. Inventory Control
Follow company policies and procedures to ensure that all cable department records and documents are accurate, promptly updated, and conform to company standards.
Use the asset management software to access lists of equipment to be prepared for each order or job.
Use the asset management software to scan equipment, ensuring all orders are completely fulfilled for outgoing orders or jobs.
Scan incoming items upon return checking for missing and or damaged equipment or parts.
3. Equipment Repair & Work Area Cleanliness
Clean and restore upon return all equipment to meet GSPS standards.
Inspect all returned cables for damages.
Report and document all damaged and lost cables as needed.
Execute and follow quality control procedures for the cable department.
Operate cable testing equipment.
Keep the work area clean and organized.
4. Attendance
Attendance is an essential requirement for this position.
Ability to work flexible hours and overtime, including weekends and holidays, when needed.
5. Any Other Duties as Assigned by Supervisor
To be determined by supervisor on a permanent or project basis.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education / Certificates
High School diploma and / or 1 year experience in event production or another relevant field.
Material Handler Certifications, i.e. Forklift and Pallet Jack certifications, etc.
Experience
Experience in live events, trade shows, or related industry preferred.
Experience working in a warehouse is a plus.
Skills / Abilities
Knowledge of live event production equipment is a plus.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to operate a forklift or be willing to learn.
Ability to operate a pallet jack or be willing to learn.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Physical Demands :
Ability to work at a consistent pace throughout the shift
Due to the complexity and weight of the equipment, adequate stamina and physical strength are necessary to perform the duties of the job
Work with power cables and power distribution in common live event environments
Work under any prevailing terrain and weather conditions and be appropriately dressed to do so, regardless of cold, heat, humidity, or wet weather conditions
Strength :
Frequent manual lifting, up to 50 lbs., depending on equipment available (50-80% of shift)
Frequent pushing and pulling up to 50 lbs., depending on equipment available (50-80% of shift)
Manual Dexterity :
Sufficient manual dexterity to perform activities required under essential functions
Frequent light grasping and fine motor tasks (65-85% of shift)
Coordination :
Ability to perform gross body coordination and hand-eye coordination tasks without instability
Work on a variety of uneven surfaces installing power cables and lights
Mobility
Ability to sit, stand, bend, squat, lift, crawl, twist and move frequently during working hours
Frequent standing (65-85%)
Occasional stair climbing and descending (30% of shift)
Visual :
Must be able to see or use prosthetics that will enable the senses to function adequately to ensure that the essential functions of this position can be fully met
Hearing :
Must be able to hear or use prosthetics that will enable the senses to function adequately to ensure that the essential functions of this position can be fully met
Speech :
Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner
