Job Summary
Gateway Supply is seeking a skilled Technical Advisor to provide superior support to our distribution team and our HVAC dealers by supporting our Sales Team's growth and customer retention efforts. Support will be provided by phone, on-site and through training events intended to improve the professional HVAC technician's proficiency. The Technical Advisor will be an integral part of the team's resource development and equipment innovation implementation as well as customer training.
Essential Duties/Accountabilities
- Provides technical support by phone to Gateway Supply's dealers, sales professionals, and branch personnel.
- Conduct technical job site visits when necessary.
- Conducts technical training and coordinate other technical education and testing classes.
- Maintains regular contact with HVAC Division Managers, Sales Team members and Branch personnel. These meetings should include discussions that assist in determining future training topics as well as dealer technical problem resolution and product support.
- Perform assigned duties with supervised direction as well as working independently, while maintaining efficient time management and task execution.
- Maintain a professional development plan as well as appearance and conduct.
- Lead our team in proficiency of new technology, HVAC equipment and accessories by attending designated training provided by manufacturers and Gateway Supply. Overnight travel may be required.
- Maintain an approved expense budget for technical training events.
- Submit regular activity and expense reports, as mandated and within necessary deadlines.
- Weekly field reports are required to be submitted to the manager.
- Expense reports are required to be submitted within 5 days of the end of each month
- Maintain an accurate and updated digital calendar, shared with their manager and sales team.
- Daily travel may be required. Service area includes South Carolina, as well as parts of North Carolina and Georgia. Ideal candidate would be located in Eastern/Coastal region of South Carolina
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- College or advanced training preferred
- 7 years of technical HVAC field experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail and completion
- Effectively multi-task and have the ability to learn new job skills in a fast paced, customer-oriented sales environment.
- Working knowledge of refrigeration systems, thermal dynamics, duct and load calculations.
- Unitary residential and light commercial (up to 25 tons) split and packaged system HVAC technical experience required. Ductless mini split experience is preferred. VRF/VRV experience is helpful but willing to invest in training opportunities for the right candidate.
Licensing and Certifications:
- Valid driver license and/or CDL license
- EPA 608 certification required, NATE certification a plus

- The employee frequently is required to stand sit or walk, climb, kneel, crouch, or crawl. This includes but not limited to; ladders, crawlspaces, attics, roofs, etc.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee may use equipment such as forklifts, ladders, pallet jacks and other warehouse equipment.
