GATEWAY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION: DISPATCHER RANGE 11 DEFINITION OF POSITION Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Transportation, performs secretarial and clerical functions related to the operation of the pupil transportation system. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs secretarial duties; types correspondence and other material and maintains accurate transportation files and records.
- Performs receptionist duties; provides information to parents and the general public regarding transportation matters.
- Compiles required transportation reports.
- Operates standard office machines, including computer operating systems and programs.
- Maintains accurate records of personnel absences and employee time sheets.
- Assists in reviewing mileage for student required walking areas.
- Refers the management of student behavior problems, scheduling problems and complaints to the Supervisor of Transportation.
- Assists in planning bus routes taking into consideration such factors as traffic conditions, pupil load size and potential road hazards.
- Makes recommendations to supervisor for changes in bus routes and schedules to obtain maximum utilization of equipment and personnel.
- Assigns and schedules bus drivers to athletic and special study trips in coordination with the regular pupil personnel transportation scheduling.
- Arranges for and assigns substitute drivers.
- Assists in planning of transportation personnel orientation.
- Assists with preparation of zone maps and discusses bus routing with drivers.
- Maintains and compiles data and information upgrading the pupil transportation program.
- Receives and transmits radio communication.
- Performs other related duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS
- Pass the General Clerical Exam administered by the district at the 60th percentile or above.
- Type 60 net words per minute on a 5-minute timed writing. (Outside certificate is acceptable) QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of:
- Methods and practices pertaining to a pupil transportation program;
- English, grammar, spelling, punctuation;
- Modern office methods and equipment, including computer technology;
- Automated record management and filing systems;
- Receptionist and telephone techniques;
- Effective radio communication techniques and procedures. Gateway Unified School District Ability to:

- Perform clerical and secretarial work using independent judgment;
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships;
- Interpret and apply legal mandates and regulations pertaining to the pupil transportation program;
- Perform job assignments with numerous interruptions and work with minimal supervision;
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records;
- Operate a two-way radio system.
