DEFINITION
Under the direction of the site administration/designee assists in the supervision of students on high school grounds, parking lots and areas adjacent to the school; maintains order to ensure proper student conduct, safety and maximum class attendance. This position exercises responsibility for enforcing school rules and regulations pertaining to student behavior, order and conduct; performs other related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
•Patrols school grounds, corridors, restrooms, parking lots and adjacent areas for the purpose of enforcing District’s rules and regulations as they pertain to student attendance, behavior and conduct.
•Supervises student behavior; correcting improper and unruly activities and reporting major infractions to the school administration.
•Intercedes in and reports to appropriate authorities student arguments and altercations.
•Assists in the supervision of students in bus loading/unloading areas maintaining order and ensuring compliance with district rules and regulations related to student behavior and conduct.
•Supervises students in and around cafeteria during lunch periods; assists in maintaining cafeteria in neat and orderly condition.
•Escorts students to class or to proper administrative office.
•Checks students who are out of class or leaving campus during class time for proper authorization.
•Directs non-students to leave school grounds and escorts parents and visitors to proper office or classroom.
•Supervises detention program at assigned school; takes roll and verifies clearance of penalties.
•Maintains records and files related to assignment such as detention records, incident reports, detention referrals, parking tickets, confiscated property, etc.
•Performs security checks of buildings and grounds; locks halls and monitors voice levels as necessary.
•Relays messages to/from school office and classroom teachers, students and other personnel as assigned.
•Monitors students in classrooms when teachers are late or unavailable until responsible school personnel arrives.
•Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
•Correct English usage, grammar and punctuation;
•District rules and regulations pertaining to student behavior and conduct on campus.
Ability to:
•Enforce school rules and regulations within established guidelines;
•Read and write at a level sufficient to perform required duties;
•Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
•Relate well with students;
•Analyze situations accurately and adopt effective course(s) of action;
•Exercise tact, diplomacy and good judgment in dealing with students;
•Maintain accurate records and prepare reports related to assigned duties;
•Meet the physical requirements of the job;
•Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
In order to perform this job successfully an individual must meet the physical requirements necessary to complete the essential job duties.
•Require the mobility to stand, stoop, reach and bend.
•Require mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects.
•Require the ability to stand for long periods.
•Require the ability to walk long distances.
•Perform work which involves the frequent lifting, pushing and/or pulling of objects which may weigh approximately 50 pounds and may occasionally weigh up to 75 pounds.
•May be required to work in extreme weather conditions.
•Is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
