Job Title: Development Manager

Position Summary:
The Development Manager is a key member of the administrative staff at Gathering Waters Public Chartered School, responsible for managing and growing the school's fundraising efforts, donor relations, and communications strategies. This role ensures the long-term financial health and sustainability of the school by supporting and expanding a variety of revenue-generating initiatives, including individual donations, grants, corporate sponsorships, and special events. The Development Manager works closely with the Lead Administrator, Board of Directors, and other staff members to foster a culture of giving and strengthen the school’s relationship with the local community, alumni community, and beyond.
Essential Functions (Time Spent on Each):
- Fundraising Strategy (10%)
- Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to meet annual revenue goals with the Lead Administrator.
- Assist the Business Manager and Lead Administrator in tracking and reporting on fundraising performance against goals.
- Help prepare financial documents and reports related to fundraising efforts.
- Donor Relations (40%)
- Manage and cultivate relationships with current and potential donors, including individuals, foundations, and corporations.
- Develop and oversee donor gratitude and recognition programs, including acknowledgment letters, reports, and special events.
- Coordinate major donor and planned giving campaigns.
- Maintain the donor database; track gifts and pledge commitments.
- Grant Writing and Management (20%)
- Research, write, and submit grant proposals to local and national foundations and government agencies.
- Manage the reporting requirements for all grants received, ensuring timely submission of progress reports and other required documents.
- Events and Community Engagement (20%)
- Plan and execute fundraising events such as an annual fund campaign launch, school community events, or donor appreciation gatherings.
- Actively engage with the school community, including parents, alumni, and local partners, to build connections and increase school visibility.
- Communications and Marketing (10%)
- Collaborate with the administrative staff to develop strategic messaging and marketing materials, including newsletters, donor reports, and social media.
- Promote the school’s mission and fundraising initiatives through various channels to engage new supporters and strengthen relationships with existing ones.
- Manage projects with contractors and vendors as needed.
- Other Functions:
- Support the Lead Administrator and Board of Directors with strategy development and long-term planning.
- Assist with the recruitment and retention of volunteers for fundraising activities and school events.
- Represent Gathering Waters Charter School at external meetings and community functions when appropriate.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, business administration, or a related field is preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in fundraising, development, or related roles in a nonprofit or educational setting.
- Proven success in meeting fundraising goals and managing donor relationships.
- Experience with grant writing and managing a donor database system is a plus.
- Experience with Waldorf education is preferred.
Specific Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, volunteers, and community members.
- Proficiency with Google Suite and familiarity with donor management software.
- Ability to think strategically and creatively to solve problems.
Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.:
- Knowledge of current trends in nonprofit fundraising, including major gifts, annual giving, and online fundraising.
- Familiarity with the local philanthropic landscape in the Monadnock Region and the Waldorf community is preferred.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- This position may supervise development volunteers or interns, depending on the school’s needs.
Working Conditions:
- This position is based in Keene, NH, and requires the ability to work on-site during normal business hours, with occasional evening or weekend events or meetings as necessary.
- Occasional travel within the local area may be required for donor meetings and events.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit and work at a desk for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting and setting up for events (e.g., carrying boxes up to 25 lbs).
- Ability to use a computer for extended periods of time.
