Safety Coordinator
We are currently seeking a Safety Coordinator that will facilitate compliance with occupational safety and health (OSHA) guidelines, provide advice on measures to minimize hazards or unhealthy situations and be on a constant lookout for safety violations.
The ideal candidate will be a responsible individual who understands and follows OSHA regulations, be detail-oriented and ready to act in emergencies. The goal is to enforce the guidelines of a safe workplace according to legal standards and foster a culture of attention to health and safety.
Starting Annual Salary Pay Range for This Position: $50,000 to $70,000. This is based on previous work experience, skills, and current certifications / professional licenses.
Job Responsibilities For The Safety Coordinator:
- Support the development of Occupational Health & Safety policies and programs
- Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery etc.)
- Reporting Directly to the Director of Safety. Assisting the Director with reporting, scheduling and any other administrative task.
- Conduct risk assessment and enforce preventative measures
- Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation
- Initiate and organize OHSA training of employees and executives
- Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (example: not using protective equipment)
- Oversee installations, maintenance, disposal of substances etc.
- Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy
- Record and investigate incidents to determine causes and handle worker's compensation claims
- Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management
- Ensure company policies and procedures are always followed.
- Visiting construction sites 1 to 2 times per week for safety evaluations.
Requirements For The Safety Coordinator:
- Proven experience in Safety
- In depth knowledge of legislation (e.g. OSHA/EPA) and procedures
- Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
- Experience in writing reports and policies for health and safety
- OSHA 10, 1st Aid, and CPR certifications
- Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
- Proficient in MS Office; Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus
- May require some short-term traveling
- Outstanding organizational skills
- Diligent with great attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics
- BS/BA in safety management is preferred
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- Physical/Sensory Functions: Regularly will use sit, use hands, talk/hear; Frequently will reach with hands; Occasionally will stand, walk, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste/smell.
- Lift and/or Move Functions: Regularly will lift-up to 10 pounds; Frequently will lift up to 25 pounds; Occasionally will lift up to 50 pounds.
