Required duties (but not limited to):

  • Clean kennels
  • Restrain animals during examination, treatments, radiographs, blood collection, etc.
  • Walk boarded dogs
  • Make a good first impression on clients, smile, be professional. Set a positive tone
  • Maintain a professional appearance (clothes and attitude)
  • Greet clients and pets warmly
  • Be professional, ethical, and friendly at all times, even if clients are being difficult
  • Promote the practice by attending events, word of mouth, business cards
  • If clients are waiting for an extended period of time, offer refreshments, magazines, or other things to make client more comfortable
  • Serve as initial source of information to clients
  • Understand vaccinations, basic lab tests, common diseases, and pet behavior
  • Know how to use computer software
  • Perform day end duties such as evening walks, ensuring patients have a clean kennel, administering medications, and setting up exam rooms for next day of business.
  • Assist clients as necessary to make their visits easier
  • Maintain cleanliness of the examination rooms, waiting room, and kennel areas.
  • Assist in maintenance of outside of hospital
  • Fill medications
  • Verify medication refills
  • Assist doctor/assistants with procedures as necessary
  • Understand assistant duties
  • Attend staff meetings
  • When in doubt, ask questions
  • Continually strive to improve
  • Make suggestions how to improve hospital protocols
  • Help veterinarian or other staff members accomplish other tasks to make hospital run smoothly
  • Be familiar with other job descriptions
  • Be environmentally sound when possible
  • MUST BE ABLE TO LIFT 40 LBS AND HELP RESTRAIN FRACTIOUS ANIMALS.

***Also responsible for assisting receptionist in their duties especially during busy periods of day. These responsibilities include scheduling appointments, answering the telephone, setting up new clients and patients, preparation and maintenance of medical records, admitting and discharging patients, filling some prescriptions, over the counter sales, mailings, computer operation, financial transactions, filing, and front office and reception area maintenance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $9.00 per hour
