This position plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability and integrity of fiber optic cabling in various environments. A fiber optic splicer installs, maintains, and repairs fiber optic cables and systems, ensuring high-speed connectivity for data, voice, and video transmission, and troubleshooting issues to maintain optimal performance.

- Continuous focus on safety
- Splicing various types of Fiber optic cable with connectors or pig tails.
- Install fiber optic enclosures and hardware.
- Provide acceptable test results using OTDR, Power Meters
- Identify and troubleshoot basic optical problems, minimizing network downtime
- Read and understand engineered drawings and riser diagrams
- Install and understand network equipment architecture
- Maintain accurate records and test results
- Respond to network outages and perform required troubleshooting and repairs.
- Keep up-to-date records of project progress, including production reports, time sheets, and necessary customer documentation.
- Maintain splice equipment
- Complete certification testing of fiber optic systems
- Experienced in understanding and adhering to safety including those outlined by OSHA, NESC, NEC, and other pertinent standards.
- Maintain a safe work environment by following Gaylor’s policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Knowledge of test equipment, digital analyzer, and OTDR.
- Experience with both levels of splicing, Splicer 1 and Splicer 2.
- Experience installing, inspecting, repairing, and troubleshooting various fiber optic cables.
- Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, submittals, and operational/product manuals.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Capable of performing physical labor to include carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
- Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult position such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, working within ducts, above ceilings, etc.
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends to meet customer requirements.
- Overnight travel may be required.
- Demonstrate a high level of customer service.
- Ability to adhere to, implement, and always follow safety guidelines and procedures.
- Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company requirements.
- Able to pass a pre-employment background and drug test.
- Retain any licenses that are required by National, State and Local codes.
- 2-year degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Maintain a current BICSI Installer 2, Optical Fiber Certification or BICSI Technician Certification
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
