Job Summary:
The Security Manager directs department activities to ensure high quality and cost effective services are delivered to support the departments and organization’s goals and objectives. This position requires specialized skills, knowledge and the subject matter expertise related to safety programs, public safety, security, criminal procedure and emergency preparedness.
This position focuses on Security and Emergency Management core initiatives and capabilities that include: program management, 24/7 operations and response structure, team development, shift scheduling, engagement and communications, service excellence with customers and other external partners, continuous improvement, and regulatory compliance, emergency plans, emergency notification, physical security, education, training and emergency exercises, workplace violence prevention, and other enhanced protection programs, among others
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Management
Manages all aspect of personnel selection and recruitment, field and other training, policy and procedures, standards, scheduling, performance improvement plans, annual performance evaluations, appearance, leadership of daily huddles, payroll, and compensation recommendations. Conducts vulnerability and threat assessments. Collaborates with department managers to determine security needs. Gathers security intelligence and implementing preventative measures.
Leadership and Operations
Manages day to day operational support, and leadership public safety, security, protection, preparedness, and response activities. These include: program management, integration, security operations and response structure, emergency plans, notification, physical security, education, training, emergency exercises, workplace violence prevention, investigations, and other enhanced protection programs. May respond to operational issues and emergencies during and outside of normal business hours. Acts as liaison between Local Police Department and the hospital regarding any security matters. Manages Avigilon video security system, access control system and ID badge creation for the organization. Assists with Emergency Management planning and execution, including:
- Coordinating responses to emergencies and alarms, as well as compiling incident reports.
- Assists the Environment of Care Coordinator in development of Emergency Management program including developing drill scenarios and conducting drills.
Education and engagement
Provide training by delivering training programs that empower the Gaylord community to be safer and more secure, training includes, but is not limited to: Crisis Prevention Institute, Management of Aggressive Behaviors, Guard Card Instructor, Emergency procedures and Incident Command System.
Regulatory Compliance
Develop and ensure regulatory compliance with all department policies, processes, guidelines and standards in addition to CMS, Joint Commission, CT DPH, among others. Participate in and provide updates including compliance data during Environment of Care/Emergency Management, Employee Safety and Workplace Violence Committees.
Service Excellence and Continuous Improvement
Reviews reports and incidents. Investigates complaints or allegations made by colleagues, patients, visitors that relate to Security in partnership with necessary stakeholders. Conducts and coordinates all investigations in a timely and professional manner.
Maintains commitment to personal growth and competency
Keeping abreast of new technologies and advancements in security services. Maintains commitment to personal growth and competency. Contributes to the safe and efficient operation of the facility and the department by demonstrating dependability in job performance.
Performs other duties as assigned
- Manage a security staff made up of 12 FTE’s with responsibility for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree (A.S.) in related field or 5 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver’s license
- Connecticut Guard Card
- Preferred CPI Certification
- Preferred Industry related certifications from International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS), ASIS or International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) including:
- IAHSS – Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA)
- ASIS – Certified Protection Professional (CPP)
- Preferred Incident Command System 100 & 200 certifications
- Preferred National Incident Management System 700 & 800 certifications
- Valid driver’s license
- Connecticut Guard Card
