Job Summary :

The role of the Marine Mechanic is responsible for repairing and maintaining company-owned equipment. The Mechanic is accountable for diagnosing issues and making necessary adjustments, repairs, or overhauls on various heavy machinery used for offshore construction.

Hydra Employee Responsibilities (must be completed prior to being assigned any Hydra projects) :

As the Marine Mechanic, you must understand and implement the Strategic Plan of Hydra for 2023-2028. You must clearly understand how the set strategic goals and objectives can be achieved and promote Hydra's Vision. It is vital to comprehend how your position fits into Hydra's organization. Within 90 days of employment, you need to understand and promote Hydra's ISO 9001 : 2015 Quality Management System and how it works. You should also assist in implementing other "Key Systems and Processes" in place within Hydra to operate on a high level.

Marine Mechanic Responsibilities :

  • Travel (as required) to the vessel to perform maintenance and repairs to various engines aboard vessels.
  • Troubleshoot and replace pumps, compressors, and other mechanical systems.
  • Assist the Port Engineer on repairs to vessels on dry dock.
  • Visit vessels in operation for repair and preventive maintenance planning at anchor, berth or offshore.
  • Work on-call rotation, ensuring coverage after hours and on weekends and holidays.
  • Perform other duties and activities as directed by VP of Marine Operations and the Special Projects Manager.
  • Repair marine equipment on site under adverse weather conditions at all hours.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive communications.
  • Required to work aboard company vessels to assist in repair and maintenance of vessel equipment.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Qualifications :

  • Cummins, Caterpillar, Detroit, and engine experience.
  • Knowledge of EMD and Client engine preferred.
  • Knowledge of Twin Disc gears, pumps, PTO's.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical systems and components.
  • Knowledge of the oil transportation and maritime industry.
  • Knowledge of shipboard maintenance systems and equipment.
  • Work well with others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment.
  • Must be physically fit enough to board ships at sea and in port in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal or no guidance.
  • Valid state drivers' license and a passport.
  • Candidates must have access to reliable transportation to get to work and other job sites on time.
  • Must be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Must be able to complete basic offshore safety training, Helicopter Underwater Escape Training and pass the OGUK Offshore Medical Exam.
  • Technology Requirements :

  • Must be proficient and effectively work with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be able to work on Mac computers. Training is available upon request.
  • Must understand document control and file sharing procedures, Dropbox, and other online tools.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes a hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, personal floatation devices (PFD), and / or other protective equipment.
  • The individual frequently works near moving mechanical parts and must be able to adapt to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
  • The individual may be required to walk, step, climb, or otherwise move from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
  • The individual may be required to work in confined spaces, climb vertical ladders of a height of 6 ft. or greater, and / or elevated heights.
  • The individual may be required to lift objects with a maximum single-person lift of 50 lbs. This could result in frequent lifting or carrying depending on project needs.
