GC&E Federal is seeking an innovative and experienced Cloud & DevSecOps Solutions Architect to support the CDC’s National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR). The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in Microsoft Azure and .NET development, complemented by working knowledge of open-source technologies and Amazon Web Services (AWS). This role requires a balance of technical expertise, hands-on engineering, and cross-functional collaboration. The architect will assist in the design, development, and implementation of cloud-native, secure, and scalable solutions, while also contributing technical insight to our PMO’s federal proposal efforts as needed.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Design, implement, and maintain secure, cloud-native solutions for CDC NPCR initiatives, leveraging Azure services, .NET technologies, and DevSecOps best practices.
Enhance and support the Registry Plus ecosystem, ensuring its effectiveness for pathology reporting and Web Plus services.
Assist in the development and management of an Azure-based DevSecOps environment and pipelines, incorporating CI/CD, secrets management, and security automation.
Architect solutions that integrate with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), including:
Transformation of Excel-based formats into HL7© 2.5.1 messages
Secure transport and data exchange services
Pilot new features and integrations with multiple Central Cancer Registries (CCRs) and laboratory partners.
Provide architectural guidance across .NET-based applications as well as select open-source platforms (e.g., Python, Node.js) where appropriate.
Participate in Agile ceremonies, technical planning, and CDC stakeholder briefings to communicate progress, resolve roadblocks, and align on requirements.
Document architectural decisions, operational procedures, and system functionality to support continuity, maintenance, and audit readiness.
Support architectural and system-level documentation as needed.
Contribute to technical proposal development by offering innovative technology-based strategies, scalable solution designs, and implementation timelines to our PMO.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
At least 7 years of experience working with senior-level, non-technical personnel and working with cross-functional development teams.
Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services, including App Services, Functions, Key Vault, Azure SQL, and Monitoring.
Proven expertise in .NET / .NET Core application development, integration, and deployment in cloud environments.
Familiarity with open-source technologies and frameworks (e.g., containerized microservices, Python, or Node.js) in hybrid or multi-cloud scenarios.
Working knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS), including EC2, S3, or Lambda, particularly in environments that blend Azure and AWS capabilities.
Demonstrated experience with DevSecOps methodologies, including source control (Git), automated testing, security scanning, and continuous delivery pipelines.
Proficiency in Linux and Windows Server administration, as well as infrastructure technologies such as MSSQL, IIS, Active Directory, Exchange, VMWare, and Hyper-V.
Deep understanding of secure development practices, disaster recovery, and data protection requirements for handling patient-identifiable information (PII).
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Required Experience:
Minimum of 7 years in cloud architecture, software development, and DevOps/DevSecOps practices.
Preferred Education, Certifications, and Soft Skills/Experience:
Familiarity with the CDC National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR)
Experience in cancer registry operations or public health data systems
Previous support of federal proposals, including solutioning, writing technical sections, or developing level-of-effort estimates
Exceptional customer service orientation, adaptability, and ability to work effectively under pressure
Physical Requirements:
Work may be conducted in a traditional office setting or via partial/full telework. Extended periods of sitting or computer use may be required. Occasional need for rapid response to technical issues or client deliverables.
