What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Instructional Systems Designer (T-ISD) (TS/SCI with Poly Required) position at GCI?

At GCI, we solve the hard problems. We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced officer to join our professional development team. The ideal candidate is responsible for implementing the customer's curriculum lifecycle tasks. The Contractor T-ISDs collaborate closely with the customer to assess training needs and develop all material for new courses and provide updates to existing courses as requested by the customer. T-ISDs support the entire creation process, including technology research and insertion when applicable, through pilot course delivery and course evaluations to ensure courses meet training and customer objectives.
T-ISDs work will include:
- Needs assessment: Determine the needs of the learning event, including the stakeholder goals, organizational goals, and learner needs
- Develop instructional materials: Create training materials in collaboration with Technical Training Instructors and Subject Matter Experts. Materials may include presentation materials, participant guides, handouts, and job aids
- Design course content: Apply learning theory to design course content and learning activities
- Evaluate training: Assess what was learned and if the training led to measurable behavior changes
- Provide guidelines: Provide guidelines to educators and instructors for developing curricula and conducting courses
Required Qualifications
- 3 years of adult learning experience in any of the following: instructional design, instructional technology, experiential learning, or closely related field
- 3 years of experience creating instructional content
- 1 year of experience with customer working in a technical mission area
- A degree in Business, Science, Engineering, Education or Liberal Arts or an ISD certification with 5 years of course development experience in the past 7 years after certificate award
- Certificate in Instructional Design from an accredited institution or a degree in an education field strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience with instructional design, instructional technology, experiential learning, or a closely related educational field
- Demonstrated experience creating instructional content for adult learners supporting a broad range of training modalities (synchronous, asynchronous, instructor led, web-based training, virtual training and/or blended courses
- Demonstrated experience designing technical course content for the customer
- Knowledge of multimedia production tools and methodology and a strong technical aptitude to quickly learn new software and hardware
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Science, Engineering or Education
- Experience teaching technical content in an adult learning environment
- Experience incorporating technology such as gaming, augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR), avatars, and or artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) modalities into course content
- Demonstrated knowledge of customer technologies and tools used to support the intelligence collection and assessment lifecycle
