Grounds Maintenance

Job Summary: 

• Responsible for all tasks associated with grounds maintenance outside of the buildings.

Job Duties: 

• Routine cleanup, cutting, trimming, and edging of all grassed areas and lawns.
• Maintenance of flower, shrub, tree beds and replacement thereof.
• General leaf clean-up, tree pruning, tree removal, sod installation, seeding, fertilizing, liming, thatching, aerating, irrigation, erosion, watering, and back-filling.
• Continuous routine maintenance and minor repairs to such ground structures as improved and unimproved roads, parking areas, sidewalks, fences, retaining walls, storm drainage ditches, window wells, and catch basis; heavy weather services (snow removal); refuse collection and disposal, and provide services necessary to cope with emergencies such as those resulting from accidents, natural disasters, breakdown of equipment, floods in buildings from roof leaks, overflowed rest room fixtures, sinks, sprinklers systems, water pipes and other utilities.
• Handling materials (e.g., loading, unloading, digging, hauling, hoisting, carrying, wrapping, mixing, pouring, spreading); washing and cleaning cars and trucks and department equipment; cleaning grounds, and other areas; and doing other general maintenance work, by hand or using common hand-tools and power equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Safety Requirements: 

• Actively participate in the GCR & Project Occupational Safety & Health Program.
• Perform all assigned work in a safe and reasonable manner that avoids preventable injury and preventable property/equipment damage to you, co-workers, customers, GCR, Government, and/or the public. 
• Immediately report all occupational injuries, unsafe conditions, and/or property damage.
• Use and enforce the wearing of personal protective equipment.
• Always wear a seatbelt while operating/riding in a company vehicle, government vehicle, or a privately-owned vehicle while performing work activities or acting as an agent of GCR.
• Not be unfit for work due to the presence, ingestion, consumption or inhalation of illegal drugs, prescribed medications, over-the-counter drugs and/or alcohol.

Machines, Tools and Equipment Used:

• Hand and power tools
• Mower
• Edging
• Cleaning equipment

Mandatory: 

• High School Diploma or GED certificate.
• Two (2) years’ experience in commercial grounds maintenance.  Knowledge of the landscaping industry standards, practices, and material. 
• Ability to manage a variety of tasks, work under pressure and meet deadlines. 
• Ability to work in a team environment and under all weather conditions.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, using the English language.
• Have valid driver’s license and be a citizen of the United States.
• Successfully obtain and maintain base access clearance.
• Ability to constructively interact with associates, customers, support staff and management.
• Ability to work a non-traditional work week, to include evenings, weekends and/or Holidays as work demands dictate and/or directed by the Project Manager.

Preferred Requirements:

• OSHA 10 Certification.
