What are the responsibilities and job description for the Database Architect position at GCS?
We are seeking an experienced Database Architect to lead the migration, automation, and optimization of existing databases. The ideal candidate will have expertise in MS Access, VBA, SQL Server, and SSIS, with a strong ability to enhance database functionality and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Database Migration: Upgrade and migrate MS Access 2016 (32-bit) databases to MS Access 2024 (64-bit) while ensuring full functionality and data integrity.
- Database Automation: Develop and implement complex stored procedures in SQL Server to automate MS Access databases for improved efficiency.
- Database Design & Development: Design, build, and maintain MS Access databases, including tables, queries, forms, reports, and switchboards.
- VBA and Macros Development: Upgrade and enhance VBA code and macros to automate tasks and improve database performance.
- Data Integration: Utilize SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) to integrate and transform data from multiple sources.
- Performance Optimization: Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize database performance to ensure fast and efficient data retrieval.
- User Support & Training: Provide training and technical support to end-users for database-related queries.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation for database structures, processes, and procedures.
Qualifications & Skills:
- 5 to 7 years of experience in Database Architect and maintenance.
- Expertise in MS Access (tables, queries, forms, reports, switchboards).
- Strong VBA programming skills with the ability to enhance and optimize existing macros and scripts.
- Experience in SQL Server, including complex stored procedures and SSIS.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (preferred).
