JOB TITLE: Cybersecurity Analyst
CLIENT/INDUSTRY: Government Sector
PLACE OF PERFORMANCE: Crownsville, Maryland
DURATION: 12 months
RATE: $38/hr - $60/hr
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Contract
Overview:
Our client seeks a highly skilled Cybersecurity Analyst/Subject Matter Expert/Local Cybersecurity Coordinator (SME) to support the implementation of local cyber programs that align with state-wide cybersecurity strategy. This critical role will work directly with units of local government to enhance cybersecurity and ensure the effective delivery of cybersecurity services. The SME will collaborate with various state, federal, and local partners, contributing to a cyber-resilient ecosystem in the local government.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough assessments of local networks, cybersecurity architecture, tools, policies, and plans.
- Identify vulnerabilities and gaps in existing security measures.
- Analyze risk factors and prioritize areas for improvement.
- Work with stakeholders to remediate vulnerabilities and strengthen security posture.
- Draft and refine cybersecurity policies, best practices, and implementation plans.
- Recommend effective security solutions tailored to each local unit of government’s needs.
- Provide training on cybersecurity topics to improve organizational cybersecurity capabilities.
- Foster knowledge sharing and skill development within local government organizations.
- Prepare detailed reports for leadership, highlighting findings, risks, and recommended actions.
- Translate technical assessments into actionable insights for decision-makers.
- Advise on strategic paths forward to mitigate risks effectively.
- Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including government agencies and organizations.
- Facilitate communication between technical experts and leadership.
- Act as a bridge between technical requirements and organizational goals.
Qualifications:
- At least five (5) years of experience in cybersecurity, with a focus on roles such as Cyber Security Engineer, Cyber Manager, or Cyber Analyst.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (years of demonstrated experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity solutions and technologies.
- Experience performing security maturity and system assessments in alignment with the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and preparing respective assessment reports.
- Proven experience in remediating risk and vulnerabilities through cybersecurity best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work with and present to senior leadership and executives.
- Strong communication skills to engage a diverse range of stakeholders and effectively report findings.
- Ability to travel to various jurisdictions within Maryland.
- Graduate degree in cybersecurity or a related field.
- Familiarity with NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF).
- Relevant professional certifications are preferred.
