Overview:
The Roman Catholic Religious Education (RE) Coordinator will oversee the religious education and formation programs for grades K-12 at Eglin Air Force Base (AFB). This position ensures that the program aligns with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, the Archdiocese for Military Services, USA (AMS), and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). The coordinator will facilitate sacramental preparation, organize retreats, and support faith formation while working closely with the Roman Catholic Chaplain/Priest.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organize and oversee K-12 religious education and faith formation programs.
- Coordinate preparation for First Holy Communion, First Reconciliation, and Confirmation.
- Implement the Archdiocese for Military Services (AMS) religious education curriculum.
- Recruit, train, and oversee catechists and volunteers.
- Maintain accurate student and volunteer records and submit reports as required.
- Ensure all teaching materials align with Roman Catholic doctrine.
- Prepare and coordinate sacramental celebrations and retreats.
- Attend meetings with chaplains, religious education staff, and advisory councils.
- Manage the RE program budget and submit funding requests.
- Follow security and background check requirements, including VIRTUS training.
- Ensure proper use, setup, and cleanup of chapel facilities for religious education activities.
Qualifications & Requirements:

Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Theology, Religious Studies, or a related field (preferred).
- Associate’s degree or relevant certification in religious education may be considered.

Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years as an RE Coordinator or 5 years teaching religious education.

Skills:
- Strong knowledge of Roman Catholic doctrine and sacramental preparation.
- Excellent organization, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a military chapel setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database management.
- Must be adaptable, flexible, and able to work with diverse communities.

Other Requirements:
- Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
- Willing to obtain AMS Catechist Certification within 30 days of contract award.
- Must pass background checks, including National Agency Check Investigation (NACI) and state criminal history checks.
- Completion of VIRTUS training (Protecting God’s Children) or willingness to complete within 30 days.
Work Schedule & Location:
- 20 hours per week on average (includes Sundays and weekday office hours).
- Based at Eglin Air Force Base Chapel, with occasional off-site events.
