The IO and Networking (ION) Engineering Project Manager (EPM) is the leader of the Integrated Product Development Team (IPDT). The EPM has to indirectly influence the IPDT to deliver on NPI goals and objectives, as well as the customer’s Statement of Work (SOW) and internal stakeholder expectations.
The EPM is responsible for scope, cost, and schedule management of the product; and has to ensure disciplined EVMS application.
The EPM has to work in tandem with the resource managers to ensure that the project is properly staffed. The EPM has to have prior experience with development of electronics products. The EPM has to be a strong advocate for FLIGHT DECK LEAN initiatives and projects.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Develop and manage engineering and technology projects, ensuring effective resource allocation in collaboration with internal engineering management.
Deliver project scope within the original cost estimate, managing scope, schedule, budget, and integration of NPI projects to meet customer expectations and achieve tollgate milestones. Projects are often components of larger programs.
Demonstrate financial and operational expertise to navigate multiple projects funding the same product, including understanding different revenue streams (internal vs. customer-funded).
Exhibit strong Earned Value Management System (EVMS) skills, coaching engineers on EVMS fundamentals and their applicability.
Apply project management acumen to delineate scope, protecting company-developed intellectual property for competitive advantage.
Promote product adoption among internal stakeholders, facilitating the reuse of common product artifacts.
Possess knowledge of best practices for integrating a common computing platform with products.
Demonstrate expertise in the development of electronic products, including hardware, custom logic, test systems, and software.
Lead the Integrated Product Development Team (IPDT) to ensure seamless execution.
Understand or be willing to learn Aerospace Avionics standards.
Ensure compliance with Avionics Certification Standards, working closely with Certification Engineers.
Use judgment and propose solutions outside of set parameters to address complex manufacturing processes with technical variety and interdependent production cycles.
Apply technical experience and analytical thinking, utilizing multiple internal and limited external sources to make decisions.
Act as a resource for less experienced colleagues and may lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements.
Communicate effectively to present project updates to senior leadership and the IPDT, fostering consensus on topics within the field.
Drive weekly and monthly operating reviews using GE's FLIGHT DECK templates and standards.
Advocate for FLIGHT DECK LEAN initiatives within the project, promoting adoption within the functions.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering – Electrical, Computer Science/Engineering or related field.
At least 5 years of experience in design & development and/or technical project leadership within an electronics engineering product development environment.
3 plus years of Engineering Project Management experience with EVMS
Avionics Systems Engineering Process Background – ARP4754A, ARP4761, DO-178, DO-254 or similar.
This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
Desired Characteristics:
Prior experience in managing or designing within an Avionics Design Assurance Level A or B environment.
Proficiency with DO-297, DO-178, DO-254, and/or DO-330 process assurance.
Familiarity with networking products and Network Interoperability Specifications.
Knowledge of various interfaces, including but not limited to Ethernet, TSN Ethernet, analog, discrete, RS-232/422/485, ARINC 429/664/825.
Experience with engineering processes such as requirements definition, allocation, validation, and verification, as well as integration, embedded software, electronic systems, FAA/EASA/NAA certification, and system safety.
Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership both within and outside the company.
Proven track record of leading teams in the development, integration, validation, and verification of systems.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal and leadership abilities.
Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
Proven experience in leading programs/projects, including the ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs with established project management skills.
