Performs a wide variety of complex industrial mechanical maintenance work, involving repair / and preventive maintenance of machines, or equipment. Will work a substantial portion of the time in areas involving mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatics. Must actively participate in a team-based environment.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for maintaining, rebuilding and repairing complex industrial equipment or machines. Will diagnose equipment malfunctions and perform corrective actions with minimum supervision. Must provide accurate documentation of work efforts in both electronic and paper media.
  • Required to disassemble, overhaul, and reassemble intricate mechanisms, machines, and sub-assemblies involving complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and lubricating systems.
  • Must be able to read, interpret and follow complex schematics, blueprints, and drawings to facilitate troubleshooting to make repairs, alignments, fits or installations of parts and materials on equipment.
  • Responsible for preventive maintenance and mechanical repairs of various types of machines or equipment, including but not limited to such as: conventional turning, milling machines, drills, grinders, welding equipment, furnaces, blowers, motors, pumps, valves, exhaust fans and various process equipment, including their related devices.
  • Required to operate or work with qualified operators or support teams to validate corrective actions, and demonstrate satisfactory operating condition.
  • Responsible for operating various types of moving or material handling equipment used in repair work, such as forklift trucks, platform lifts trucks, cranes, hoists, and misc. tooling.
  • Must be able to utilize electrical, hydraulic and mechanical test equipment such as recorders, multimeters, vernier calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, electronic levels, laser alignment and other equipment as required.
  • Performs duties and tasks conforming to all safety regulations and procedures, such as LOTO, confined space, fall protection/arrest, hot work, and NFPA 70e. Keep facilities, materials and work areas clean and orderly, exercising good housekeeping practices and following all safety regulations.
  • Must actively participate in a team-based environment which includes, but not limited to the following: active participation in daily team meetings and activities, cooperates and relates well with others, practices direct professional communication with team members, and is open to new ideas from team members and considers opinions different from their own.
  • The work will be diversified and complex. Work demands a high degree of attention to detail, concentration, and judgment.
  • Considerable physical effort will be applied in machine and equipment repair. Intermittent lifting of up to 50 pounds and manipulating bulky subassemblies and parts/ tooling. Exposure to awkward positions (bending, stooping, climbing) during maintenance tasks.
  • Must have good manual dexterity, and ability to use various hand/power tools, gages and instrumentation.
  • Work with ladders, pits, platforms, and scaffolds. Must be able to climb and work at elevated levels.
  • Exposure to grease, oil, acids, metal working fluids, various chemicals and solvent while using proper PPE and following safety procedure.
  • May work around voltages, up to 600 volts while using proper PPE and following safety procedure.
  • May be expected to respond to scheduled overtime, hold over or emergency call-in as required. Currently this position is on a 9/80 schedule (with every other Friday off)
  • Will be required to carry a company issued cell phone while working on site.
  • Job assignments may require work in inclement conditions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Discipline OR High School Diploma/GED with Advanced Military Mechanical Training in applicable field
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in industrial maintenance work to include
    • Mechanical systems Pumps (e.g., troubleshooting, replacing seals/motors, understanding specs).
    • Pneumatic, and hydraulic experience
    • Pumps (e.g., troubleshooting, replacing seals/motors, understanding specs).
    • Drive Components, Belts, chains, Clutches & Brakes, etc.
  • Ability and willingness to work off shifts and weekends
  • Ability, with or without accommodation, to lift/push/pull at least 50 pounds
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background check, physical and drug screen including but not limited to testing for marijuana/THC
  • Secure job assignment and partial instructions for diverse work using conventional facilities and materials.
  • Interpret sequence of operations, use tools, facilities and materials.
  • Follow sequence of operations
  • Working from drawings, sketches, written and verbal instructions, etc., perform manual metal arc, carbon
  • arc, gas welding, MIG, TIG, brazing, gas cutting and burning as required in the installation, maintenance
  • and repair of high-pressure systems, generally determining methods and procedures.
  • Work from ladders, high scaffolds, pipe trestles, etc., climbing and working at any required height.
  • Work in manholes and closed steam tunnels, and outdoors in excavations under the most severe weather conditions. Work inside combustion test stands and exhaust stacks, sometimes working in elevated temperatures.
  • Operations also include cutting, beveling and welding cast iron pipe, stainless steel, and carbon above and below ground level, thawing frozen pipes, welding hangers, supports, pipe guides, etc.
  • Competent use of all shop equipment (iron worker, drills, saws, acetylene torch plasma arc, AC & DC welders, SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, hand and layout tools, operate forklifts, overhead cranes).
  • Weld in all positions and close quarters as required on fuel, gas, air, steam, water, etc. lines and pipes.
  • Remove slag and weld splatter, fill craters and gage weld size.
  • Observe weld deposits carefully, clean and inspect visually for defects or trapped slag before next pass is applied; repair as necessary.
  • Stow away tools and equipment.
  • Perform all position welding to very close requirements on combustion liners, transition pieces, nozzles, test stands, pressure vessels, variety of pipe lines, etc.
  • Quality may be checked visually by weld gauges, red dye penetrant, magna flux, X-ray, etc.
  • Defective work may not be readily apparent.
  • Keep facilities, material and work area orderly exercising care in their use, maintaining general housekeeping practices and conforming to all safety and quality requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • High School Diploma/GED with Journeyman's card OR High School Diploma/GED with Welding School training school and 5 years experience (Verifiable)OR High School Diploma/GED with Official Journeyman welder card (or certified/licensed welder)
  • Skilled in various welding processes such as GTAW, GMAW, and SMAW, and may work with different metals including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
  • Must certify within 8 hours per base material group as required and periodic certification thereafter.
  • Must be able to pass welding skills demonstration, written test and hands-on benching test.
  • Ability and willingness to work off shifts and weekends.
  • Ability, with or without accommodation, to lift/push/pull at least 50 pounds.
  • Must pass physical, background, and drug screen.
  • Ability and willingness to wear personal protective equipment, for example safety glasses, gloves, ear plugs, and safety shoes
  • Ability and willingness to take a pre-employment test and submit to technical interview.
  • US Citizenship is Required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to demonstrate effective listening, oral and written communication skills.
  • Read and interpret complex mechanical and electrical drawings, blueprints, sketches, and schematics.
  • Able to handle heavy materials using approved devices such as fork truck, hoists, cranes or manual lifting if in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Experience performing duties and tasks conforming to all safety regulations and procedures, such as LOTO, confined space, hot work permits, and NFPA 70e.
  • Experience with electrical, hydraulic and mechanical test equipment such as recorders, multimeters, vernier calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, electronic levels and other test equipment as required.

The hourly pay range for this position $ 30.90 - $37.61 per hour. The specific hourly rate offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. This posting is expected to close on June 9th, 2025.
