Job Description Summary

The Technology Manager - Metal Processing will work collaboratively with the Technology Directors, Program Office leaders (BPMs / Breakout leads), Business and Government technical peers and fellow Technology Managers to foster innovation and ensure research efforts are aligned with organizational priorities. The successful candidate will work to define overall strategy and operating rhythms and drive team execution. As the manager of a research team, the successful candidate will provide frequent feedback, guidance and technical / career coaching to team members

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities :

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team of technologists, drive organizational strategy, ensure operational excellence (safety & compliance, finance, resource planning) and enable project execution
  • Work closely with the Technology Director, plus leadership at GE Aerospace Business and Research, to develop / refine the vision and strategy for the Metal Processing Lab. Achieve alignment of that vision and strategy with those of relevant organizations both at GE Aerospace Research and at Aerospace business.
  • Own team technical and operation functions within the discipline as defined by the Technology Director; this will include all elements of strategy definition, goal setting, recruiting, safety & compliance, finance, resource planning, operating rhythms and project execution
  • Enable technology program execution and technology transition to the business, meeting deliverables, budgets, and schedules, while also contributing technically to projects
  • Provide focused operational coaching (project / program management, FLIGHTDECK, etc.) and career coaching
  • Work closely with Chiefs, Senior Principals & Principals to develop technical strategy for the organization and to enable the team to grow and excel technically
  • Contextualize and communicate key GE Research messages that relate to the discipline and ensure the team understands and can act upon the main themes
  • Create open environment and cross sharing of technology. Collaborate across disciplines and actively contribute to TM / people leader community at the site
  • Recruit top talent, provide mentoring, coaching, and development opportunities to grow team members
  • Establish, maintain, and grow strategic relationships with the GE businesses and external community in areas of need for the organization
  • Represent and promote GE Aerospace's research in the technical community
  • Exemplify GE Leadership Behaviors and make full use of GE initiatives

Qualifications :

  • Master's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy or a related Engineering Science
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in research and development in metallurgy, thermomechanical processing, Additive Manufacturing or related industry sectors dealing with material technologies and processes
  • Demonstrated impact, technical project leadership capability and ability to lead, build and energize cross-functional teams in high-impact technology
  • Demonstrated ability to understand customer needs and industry trends; simplify strategy into specific actions, make decisions and communicate priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to influence at senior levels
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Desired Characteristics :

  • Doctoral degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy or a related Engineering Science
  • Industrial experience in developing compositions and processes of superalloys for use in high temperature environments
  • Ability to work effectively across functions and demonstrated ability to coach and mentor others
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to clearly communicate technical strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to influence without formal authority
  • Demonstrated operational rigor
  • Demonstrated track record in the transition of research and development technology into an industrial product environment
  • Experience working with and interacting with global teams and cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment
  • Strong ability to drive concurrent efforts and develop technology synergy and roadmaps
  • Strong ability to actively recruit top talent with diverse backgrounds
  • Strong knowledge of GE Aerospace
  • Established network across the materials and manufacturing technical community, including participation in relevant professional societies
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work across and influence all functions / levels as part of a team
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to inspire excellence
  • The base pay range for this position is 130,000 - 240,000 USD Annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary. This posting is expected to close on March 16, 2025
