Engineer - Mechanical Loads Assessment

Job Description Summary
The Mechanical Loads Assessment Engineer executes multibody simulations of wind farms to confirm suitability of customer-proposed wind farms. The simulations are run in the Amazon Web Services cloud leveraging proprietary software and supported by physics-based assessment tools developed in python. The engineer will work closely with wind turbine component teams to develop those physics-based tools. Further, the engineer will work with customers as needed to optimize their farms for economics, maintenance, and energy production.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

• Utilize standard tools for site specific suitability assessments for wind turbine farms
• Write suitability reports and work with customers to optimize farm design
• Work with component owners and wind turbine system owners to understand the implications of failure modes and assist with designing solutions to those failure modes
• Assist with automation of processes to accelerate and increase through-put
• Assist with development and deployment of advanced suitability simulation processes

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university
• Minimum 2 years programming experience or equivalent

Desired Characteristics

• Programming experience in Matlab or Python
• MS engineering degree in Mechanical or Aero Engineering
• Experience with computer simulations
• Ability to drive change in a challenging environment in an inclusive manner.
• Self-motivated with personal and project management skills
