Job Description:
We are looking for a skilled and dedicated Sous Chef to join our culinary team. As a Sous Chef, you will play a key role in supporting the Head Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations, ensuring food quality, and maintaining kitchen efficiency. You will lead and mentor the kitchen staff, assist with menu development, manage inventory, and ensure adherence to food safety and sanitation standards. This position requires a strong culinary background, leadership abilities, and a passion for creating exceptional dining experiences.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Head Chef in the daily operations of the kitchen, ensuring smooth service and the highest quality food.
- Supervise, train, and motivate kitchen staff, ensuring they meet company standards for food preparation and presentation.
- Lead by example, demonstrating proper cooking techniques, food handling, and safety practices.
- Ensure food preparation is completed according to recipes, portioning guidelines, and presentation standards.
- Assist in the development of seasonal and creative menu items, incorporating local and fresh ingredients.
- Manage inventory, track food costs, and assist with ordering supplies to ensure the kitchen is properly stocked.
- Ensure adherence to all health and safety regulations, including maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen.
- Monitor kitchen staff performance, providing guidance and feedback to improve efficiency and skill development.
- Coordinate with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth and efficient service during peak times.
- Step into the Head Chef role when necessary, managing kitchen operations in their absence.
- Help with the scheduling of kitchen staff to ensure proper coverage during all shifts.
- Assist with the preparation of daily specials and maintain consistency in food quality and presentation.
- Maintain effective communication with the culinary team and management to address any operational issues or concerns.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar culinary leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of kitchen operations, food preparation, and cooking techniques.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to train and develop staff.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Culinary degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- Flexible schedule, with the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
