Position Summary
The Capital Project Leader is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and completion of all capital projects across the organization. Reporting to the Sr Director of Maintenance and Engineering, this role ensures that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with corporate goals. The Capital Project Leader manages a team of project managers, collaborates with site and corporate teams, and ensures projects meet operational, safety, and compliance standards. With a travel requirement of 50%, the Capital Project Leader maintains an active presence at project sites to support successful execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Capital Project Management
Oversee the entire lifecycle of capital projects, from initial planning and budgeting to execution and closeout.
Develop and manage project schedules, ensuring alignment with operational priorities and resource availability.Coordinate with site and corporate teams to identify project needs, define objectives, and establish deliverables.Budgeting and Cost ControlPrepare and manage capital project budgets, ensuring cost control and alignment with financial goals.
Monitor project expenses and identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality or timelines.Provide detailed budget updates and forecasts to the Sr Director of Maintenance and Engineering and other stakeholders.Team LeadershipManage a team of project managers, providing guidance, support, and oversight to ensure successful project execution.
Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and expectations for project team members.Mentor and develop team members to build project management capacity and expertise.On-Site EngagementTravel up to 25% of the time to maintain a presence at project sites, monitor progress, and address challenges.
Conduct on-site evaluations to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with design specifications.Facilitate regular site meetings to align stakeholders, resolve issues, and communicate updates.Stakeholder CollaborationWork closely with site maintenance and engineering leaders to ensure projects meet operational needs and integrate seamlessly with existing infrastructure.
Partner with the Director of Indirect Procurement to ensure timely availability of materials and services for projects.Collaborate with the Environmental Compliance and Sustainability to incorporate environmental considerations into project planning and execution.Risk Management and ComplianceIdentify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with capital projects, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
Ensure all projects comply with regulatory standards, safety protocols, and corporate policies.Maintain accurate project documentation, including permits, contracts, and compliance reports.Performance Monitoring and ReportingEstablish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for project delivery, such as budget adherence, schedule compliance, and quality outcomes.
Provide regular project updates to the Sr Director of Maintenance and Engineering and other stakeholders.Conduct post-project reviews to identify lessons learned and drive continuous improvement.Key Relationships
