Senior Manager, Engineering - Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) REMOTE

Position SummaryGEICO is seeking an experienced Senior Manager with a passion for building high performance, low-latency platforms, and applications centered around Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). You will build and manage a team of engineers with a deep focus on delivering enterprise-wide products to operate in a highly performant and efficient way. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission, while co-creating the culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.Position DescriptionOur Senior Manager is an engineering leader who works with the engineering staff to innovate and build new engineering solutions, improve, and enhance existing solutions focused on Virtual Desktop Infrastructure as well as leverage engineering solutions to solve critical operational problems. A Senior Manager will lead strategy and execution of a technical roadmap that will increase the velocity of delivering products and unlock new engineering capabilities. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise to improve application performance, capacity benchmarking, improve availability and reliability, design and evolve cloud infrastructure and architecture.Position ResponsibilitiesAs a Senior Manager, you will : Work with your Director to address project dependencies, negotiate and estimate incremental delivery dates for milestones with the stakeholder community, and deliver projects on timeIdentify and raise appropriate project risks, in addition to presenting detailed and implementable solutions or alternativesUnderstand how requirements and design choices may impact systems across multiple areasReport on your team’s progress for project and other key metrics, in addition to presenting detailed and implementable ideas for areas to further improve or influence product or project deliveryInitiate and support performance evaluation of team membersCultivate a culture that motivates all levels of performers to higher levels of achievementBuild and maintain relationships with your team members to support an environment of trustInfluence those you motivate and coach to be receptive to feedback by cultivating a culture that acknowledges and expects individuals to grow and be accountable as a result of the experience gained (growth mindset)Identify where technical or analytical skill gaps put future team deliverables at risk and craft a plan to remediate, consistently challenge team members to share knowledge and learn new technologiesProficiently execute difficult conversations on development and performanceCraft and deliver strategic and well-structured persuasive arguments to drive projects that drive process improvement, enhance cost leadership, and / or customer experienceManage up to leadership as well as give feedback when appropriateAdminister coaching plan(s) and Performance Improvement Plan(s)Craft fully compliant quality documentationCompliant negotiation and execution of warning administration and / or involuntary terminationDevelop the team budget and be accountable for reporting on results achieved at regular intervalsSignificantly contribute to the team planning process to include surfacing associate level proposalsQualificationsVirtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) : VMware Horizon, Azure Virtual DesktopBasic UI / UX and prototype design knowledge and experienceProven experience in digital experimentation and using web analytics data to optimize the online customer experienceKnowledge of DTM tagging, including implementation solution design and processing rule setHands-on experience with Metadata management tools (Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Alation, Informatica, etc.)Knowledge of cloud computing technologies and concepts (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, etc.)Working knowledge of object-oriented development, Gang of Four (GOF) Design Patterns, Microservices, Dependency Injection with IOC containers, and both frontend and backend unit testingProven ability to concentrate and demonstrate a capacity for learning technical concepts and adapting to new technologies quicklyStrong Cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.) platform knowledgeIn-depth knowledge of MS Office tools such as PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, and WebEx for effective communicationProficiency in Project Management and work item management tools such as Azure DevOps and PortfolioProficiency in Program Management tools such as MS Project, Visio, and ExcelStrong foundation in algorithms, data structures, and core computer science conceptsExperience in existing Operational Portals such as Azure PortalFluency with .NET, HTML-5, JavaScript / TypeScript, XML, JSON, RESTful Web Services, and Event Driven ArchitecturesFluency with at least one modern language such as Python, Java, Go and experience with open-source software is a big plusExperience with application monitoring tools and performance assessmentsExperience in PowerShell ScriptingConstructing, interpreting, and applying metrics to your work and decision making, able to use those metrics to identify correlation between drivers and results, and using that information to drive prioritization and actionExperience6 years coding experience5 years of development in a large-scale, mission-critical environment5 years of hands-on work experience supervising personnel in a technical environment2 years of experience with automated testing including Unit, Integration, and End-to-End functional testingEducationBachelor’s degree in information technology or related field, or equivalent experienceAnnual Salary$115,000.00 - $261,500.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate / annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate.
