Specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases of the brain, emotional disturbance and behavior problems.
Job Duties :
Geisinger's outpatient psychology team is specifically seeking a psychologist with both a strong generalist skill set and specific training in several areas of health psychology. Specifically, the psychologist who fills this role will be required to :
- Manage an outpatient case load, which will consist of a blend of treating more general behavioral health concerns and specific health conditions, such as chronic pain.
- Conduct individual evaluations and provide both individual and group therapy to persons presenting with functional neurological disorders
- Conduct psychological assessments specifically for pre-surgical evaluations (e.g. bariatric surgery evaluations, spinal cord stimulator evaluations)
- Serve as a member of our destination medicine team, conducting in-person pre-surgical evaluations specifically for Geisinger's destination medicine program (e.g. bariatric surgeries and spinal surgeries) one to day days per week.
- Be involved in the training of doctoral interns and possibly post-doctoral residents, specifically overseeing rotations in the health psychology domains referenced above.
- Take a patient's medical history.
- Update charts and patient information to show current findings and treatments.
- Order tests for nurses or other healthcare staff to perform.
- Review test results to identify any abnormal findings.
- Recommend and design a plan of treatment.
- Address concerns or answer questions that patients have about their health and well-being.
- Help patients take care of their health by discussing topics such as proper nutrition and hygiene.
