Role Overview
This Phlebotomist II position is a vital part of our clinical laboratory team at Geisinger Health. Your primary responsibility will be to collect high-quality blood specimens and process them for analysis, ensuring accurate information for our clients. In addition, you will utilize computer systems to register patients and facilitate billing.
Responsibilities
- Collect blood specimens via venipunctures and skin punctures, adhering to Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of collection requirements.
- Accurately handle specimen accessioning procedures to guarantee proper identification.
- Address discrepancies promptly and effectively.
- Evaluate and verify specimen quality and acceptability.
- Manage problems or escalate as necessary.
- Conduct testing and maintain records for Point of Care instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control as assigned.
- Supervise the handling and replenishment of reagents and supplies according to established protocols.
- Foster adherence to established reporting procedures.
- Document and communicate issues and resolutions as required.
- Navigate and access relevant computer applications efficiently.
- Ongoing awareness of and adherence to policies and procedures, including those related to compliance.
- Provide support for phlebotomy services as needed to other locations or settings.
- Successful completion of initial and subsequent competency assessments is essential.
