What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dispensing Optician position at Geisinger?
- Fits patient for new eyewear.
- Guides patient in choosing frames and lens material, discussing all options with patient.
- Instructs patient in the application and care of prisms and other optical aids.
- Provides patient with a clear and detailed explanation of pricing, payment policy and length of time required to complete order.
- Verifies and inspects all orders for completeness and accuracy involving prescription, style, size, and condition prior to dispensing.
- Contact patient when order is ready for pick up and provide scheduled pick up time. Adjusts and dispenses eyewear and lenses to patient and customer's satisfaction.
- Orders glasses, lenses, frame parts, visual aids, optical supplies, and departmental supplies.
- Examines glasses that need to be repaired and discusses repair options, including any costs of repairs.
- Answers telephone in a professional manner, returns patient calls in a timely manner.
- Manually prepares cash and receipts for daily bank and charge deposits. Electronically reconciles the deposit.
- Conducts thorough patient teaching and education encompassing the care, handling, hygiene, insertion and removal of contact lens.
- Orders, handles patient payment for lenses as needed.
- Checks ordered contact lens to assure they match the patient prescription.
