What are the responsibilities and job description for the Interventional Radiology Technologist - GCMC - Full Time Weekender - Days position at Geisinger?
- Ensures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality.
- Utilizes appropriate imaging protocol and optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety, optimizing patient care, and applying principles of ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable).
- Preparing and/or administering, as applicable, medications through new or existing vascular access site as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
- Evaluates images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality and verifies archival storage and/or transfer of data, post processing of data if applicable.
- Educating and monitoring students and other health care providers.
- Assists or performs diagnostic, fluoroscopic, or interventional procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
- Maintains intra-arterial access as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
- Panning of the procedure table during image production.
- Participates in physiological monitoring of patients.
- Performing manual hemostasis during and after the procedure.
- Operates and ensures the quality control of hemodynamic recording devices, electrocardiogram monitoring equipment/cardiac stimulator, oxygen consumption equipment, and blood analysis equipment.
- Initiates ACLS protocols as required for cardiac roles.
- Performs non-interpretive fluoroscopic procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
- Maintains and removes peripherally inserted central catheters as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
- Practice of sterile technique preparing for procedure including scrubbing, applying surgical gown, gloving, draping and setup of instrument table.
- Records, monitors, and assesses hemodynamic/electrogram data collected during procedures.

Required Certifications or Licensures:
Interventional Radiology:
- Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT-R) is required. New graduates must obtain primary certification prior to the start date. Advanced certification of ARRT-VI, ARRT-CI, and/or ARRT-CV must be obtained within two (2) years of hire date.
- Applicants hired after March 10, 2024, must complete steps required for advancing to level 2, including advanced certification, within 24 months of hire.
Cardiology:
- Graduate from an accredited cardiovascular technology specialty training program or Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT). Advanced certification of Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) must be obtained within two (2) years of date of hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months of date of hire.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 6 months of date of hire (Geisinger Medical Center campus only).
