Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician to join our Blood Bank team at Geisinger Medical Laboratories. As a member of our state-of-the-art laboratories, you will have the opportunity to work with innovative technologies and provide exceptional patient care through high-quality laboratory services.Job Duties
You will be responsible for performing and reporting various analyses from multiple specimen sources, maintaining an expected level of productivity, managing multiple work processes efficiently, and completing tasks in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records and reports.
- Handle specimens properly.
- Confirm identification and specimen suitability.
- Use appropriate accessioning procedures.
- Recognize discrepancies on patient orders.
- Resolve and report problems and solutions as appropriate.
- Perform and record instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control.
- Replenish reagents and supplies according to established protocols.
- Follow established reporting procedures, computerized, verbal, and manual as appropriate.
- Navigate and access multiple computer applications as needed for job functionality.
You will work closely with the team to ensure the highest level of patient care and maximize patient satisfaction. You will also be responsible for assisting in the training and orientation of new employees and participating in educational activities to maintain current knowledge in the field.
Position Details
- 7:00 am – 15:30 pm
- No Travel
- Every third weekend and holiday rotation
- Overtime-Float/Weekender
- Level 1 Trauma Center, special Blood Bank investigations, Organ Transplant, HSCT Transplant program, Obstetrics, Neonatology and Pediatrics
Education Qualification and Details
To be eligible for this role, you must meet one of the following qualifications:
- Medical Laboratory Scientist:
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of an ASCP/NAACLS-accredited Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science program OR;
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP categorical certification OR;
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory;
- or Medical Laboratory Technician:
- Associate degree in a laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).
