Job Description:
As a Surgical Technologist in our Operating Rooms, you will assist the surgeon with procedures related to the care of patients of all ages during surgical intervention.
- Assist in the coordination of treatments with other disciplines.
- Provide basic patient assistance.
- Connect patients to clinical equipment as needed.
- Practice aseptic techniques while preparing for surgery, including scrubbing, applying a surgical gown, gloving, draping, and setting up the instrument table.
- Actively participate in surgical Time-out and operating room briefing according to the universal protocol.
- Identify the correct surgical site with the circulating registered nurse and surgeon before incision of operative procedures.
- Maintain an accurate account of supplies, including sponges, needles, and instruments.
- Verify the count with the circulating nurse at the end of the procedure.
- Prepare, identify, and verify all specimens obtained during the surgical procedure.
- Dispose of linens, needles, and sharps in appropriate containers.
- Assess wounds and apply or change sterile dressings as instructed by the registered nurse.
- Maintain and document universal precautions.
- Initiate emergency procedures.
- Participate in the admission and discharge process.
- Perform billing as appropriate for services rendered or equipment used.
- Participate in on-call rotations of the operating room.
- Act as a preceptor for students assigned to the surgical unit.
- Adhere to all policies, protocols, and standards of care.
- Perform quality control monitoring.
- Perform additional duties, including specimen collection, pleure-vac, and traction setup, patient transport, and post-mortem care.
- Ensure all medications and solutions are labeled, under the registered nurse's supervision.

Position DetailsApplicants graduating from a Surgical Technologist program after December 31, 2020, will have 6 months from their date of graduation from the program to become Certified.
Schedule: Following orientation, Saturday and Sunday 7:00am - 7:00pm.
This is a Level One Trauma Center.
Education Graduate from Specialty Training Program- (Required)Experience Minimum of 1 year-Related work experience (Preferred)
