Summary:
Oversees the Grocery Department operations, trains and supervises all activities of grocery personnel to achieve the sales and profit goals established by the store. Directs and monitors store operations in the absence of both the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs duties in a safe and efficient manner, consistent with stores safety policies and procedures.
- Supports the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager, directing and monitoring store operations in their absence.
- Monitors and enforces punctuality in scheduled shift working hours of all Grocery Department employees and ensures their compliance with store policies.
- Interfaces with vendor sales representatives and summits recommendations to the Store Manager.

Monitors the receiving and unloading of grocery merchandise to:
- Ensure that grocery receiving accurately reflects the items and counts listed on vendors invoices
- Ensure accurate billing and pricing
- Ensure quality, count, and condition of products
- Enforce receiving procedures according to store policy
- Orders necessary merchandise and supplies for Grocery Department.
- Effectively controls inventory to maximize sales and turnover, and to minimize over-and under-stocks.
- Plans, builds, and merchandises end displays to obtain maximum sales, profit, and turnover; ensures they are neat, colorful, and are properly signed.
- Ensures that product rotation procedures are rigidly observed and that merchandise is of optimal freshness and quality.
- Ensures that grocery personnel keep shelves fully stocked and faced, according to the tag allocations and department standards.
- Ensures that all grocery merchandise is properly priced and that price changes are implemented in a timely manner.
- Ensures Front-End (POS) accuracy and integrity.
- Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures, supporting stores loss-prevention efforts through meetings and audits.
- Monitors and enforces a regular and effective housekeeping program throughout the Grocery Department.
- Ensures that grocery employees respond promptly to emergencies or potential safety hazards, such as spills and broken glass or containers.
- Evaluates and reacts to performance issues and actively recruits as necessary. Executes performance appraisals, and supports a counseling program and training of new and existing employees.
- Participates in training activities to increase personal skill levels, improving overall store processes and customer service.
- Meets the physical requirements to perform the job functions as listed above.
Education/Experience:
- Some college education is a minimum requirement.
- Should have at least three years of experience in the supermarket industry.
- Should have a comprehensive working knowledge of all aspects of store management and operations.
