Description
GELITA USA is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Relief Shift Supervisor in our Calumet City, IL location. They will supervise the daily operations of manufacturing while working on a rotating shift schedule, covering PTO of all other Shift Supervisors. Will need to effectively communicate and enforce procedures, Safety, GMP, Housekeeping & 5S, Quality, and HACCP. The Relief Shift Supervisor is focused on events within the next 12 -24 hours.
Essential Functions
The Relief Shift Supervisor function must:
- Cover all PTO of shift supervisors as directed by the General Supervisor
- Oversees the daily operation of the Manufacturing areas to ensure safety and quality.
- Responsible for the supervision of production and off shift maintenance employees.
- Monitor and ensures that the employees operate the equipment in accordance with established procedures to meet quality and throughput goals.
- Monitor and ensures that the employees follow sanitation programs and procedures to meet GMP and quality goals.
- In coordination with the operator helps troubleshoot equipment problems.
- Coordinate training for operators for the various positions under your control.
- Provide performance feedback and hold employees accountable through disciplinary action.
- Provide input, assist in maintaining, and adhere to all current and applicable procedures (such as ISO and FSSC).
- Balances safety, quality, productivity, cost, and morale to achieve results in all areas; strives for continuous improvement.
- Coordinate the manpower and material needs of the plant to facilitate production. Plan for scheduled absences by ensuring substituting personnel is prepared to operate the equipment in a safe and efficient manner while producing a quality product.
- Direct maintenance work to minimize processing time lost.
- Ensures effective employee relations. Resolves employee issues through problem resolution.
- Ensures operators maintain current data on their respective white boards and other visual management tools.
- Plans and chairs daily pre shift orange meetings with standard agenda, to include weekly crew meetings
- Lead and participate in Operational Excellence efforts and other continuous improvement activities.
- Must become qualified in all plant equipment in assigned area and be proficient on the entire manufacturing process to provide guidance to operators
- Must be able to demonstrate the use of the continuous improvement tools, such as 5Why, Fishbone, etc.
- Conduct inventory and cycle counts on a weekly basis to ensure appropriate amounts of requisite process materials
- Utilizes spreadsheets and other applicable programs to capture process data
- Working knowledge and ability to enforce the Bargaining Unit Contract.
- Perform other projects as assigned by the General Supervisor

The preferred candidate for the Relief Shift Supervisor position will have:
- A High School diploma or GED; A degree in a technical area is preferred
- Work in a professional environment or manufacturing environment previously
- Strong communicational skills both oral and written are essential.
- The ability to maintain constructive relations, despite occasional conflicts, with the entire workforce is extremely important.
- Ability to lead diverse teams to achieve desired outcomes
- Strong technical skills to assist in plant troubleshooting
- Ability to work through complex problems and discern critical information to enact appropriate solutions
- Moderate computer skills with at least intermediate-level proficiency using computers for email, word processing, and spreadsheets is required
