Emergency Dispatcher
Duties:
- Receive emergency calls from the public and transcribe necessary information accurately
- Operate phone systems and radio equipment to dispatch emergency personnel
- Remain calm and composed while gathering information from callers in high-stress situations
- Prioritize calls based on the level of urgency and dispatch appropriate resources
- Provide instructions to callers on how to perform life-saving techniques until help arrives
- Monitor and track the location of emergency units in the field
- Maintain accurate records of all calls, dispatches, and related activities
- Collaborate with other emergency response agencies to coordinate a timely and effective response
- Position is 4, 10 hours shifts per week. Shifts rotate every 2 months. Shifts are day, mid and night shifts and include weekends and holidays. Dispatchers must have the ability to work any assigned shift.
Experience:
- Previous experience as an emergency dispatcher or in a related field is preferred but not required
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think quickly under pressure
- Proficient in data entry and computer operations
- Conflict management skills to handle difficult callers or situations
